TrueFix Pittsburgh repairs household and light-commercial appliances in Pittsburgh and the rest of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. TrueFix Pittsburgh operates the business and is responsible for the information described here. In this policy, “we” and “us” mean that business.
We have tried to write this in plain terms and to describe what the website actually does, not what a typical website might do. If something here is unclear, ask us using the details at the bottom of the page.
What you send us through the repair request form
The booking form asks for the details a technician needs before coming out:
- whether the job is at a home or a business;
- the area and ZIP code, and the street address of the appliance;
- the brand, the type of appliance and the problem you pick from the list;
- your name, phone number and email address;
- anything you add in the notes box, such as a model number or parking instructions;
- whether you ticked the optional box agreeing to text messages.
When you press submit, those details are emailed to our booking inbox, recorded in our server's log, and passed to the customer-management software we use to schedule jobs. We also send a short confirmation email to the address you entered. If you phone us instead, we take down similar details so we can book the visit.
Once a visit happens, we keep a record of the work: the appliance, what we found, what you approved, the parts used and what was paid.
What you send us through the text sign-up page
The text sign-up form takes your name and mobile number and requires you to tick a consent box. So that we can show later when and how you agreed, we store those three things together with the date and time, the page you signed up from and the browser's user-agent string (a line of text that names the browser and device type). A copy is emailed to our office.
What the website picks up on its own
- Server logs. Like any web server, ours records basic request details such as IP address, the page asked for, the time and the browser type. These are used to keep the site running and to look into errors or abuse.
- Google Analytics, when turned on. We may enable Google Analytics to see which pages people use. When it is enabled, Google sets cookies in your browser and receives information about your visit, and taps on our call button are counted as an event. You can block or clear cookies, or use Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on. The site works normally either way.
- Call button taps. When you tap one of our phone links, the site may tell our customer-management software that our number was dialed from this website. It does not send your own phone number; that only reaches us if you place the call.
- Maps. The service-area pages show a map built with OpenStreetMap tiles and the Leaflet map library, loaded from unpkg.com. Your browser fetches those files directly from those services, so they receive your IP address and the usual request details.
We do not run advertising pixels, retargeting tags or a page-by-page visitor tracker of our own.
How we use it
Mainly to do the job you asked for: calling or texting to set up the visit, sending the technician to the right door with some idea of the fault, quoting the repair, ordering parts and following up. Beyond that we use it to keep business, tax and warranty records, to answer questions about past work, to see which parts of the website are useful, and to deal with fraud, spam submissions or legal requirements.
Who else handles it
Personal information is never sold, and no other company gets it for its own marketing. A few service providers handle it for us, only to deliver their service:
- our web host, which runs the server and keeps its logs;
- the email provider that carries booking notices and confirmations;
- our customer-management and scheduling software;
- the text-messaging platform, for customers who opted in to texts;
- Google, if Analytics is turned on, and the map services named above.
We would also disclose information if a subpoena, court order or similar legal process required it, if it were needed to protect someone's safety or property, or to a buyer or successor if the business changed hands, who would have to treat it under this policy.
Texts
We send texts only to people who agreed by ticking an unticked consent box, either on the repair request form or on the sign-up page. Leaving the box empty does not affect your booking. The texts concern your service: confirmations, reminders, arrival updates, part orders and invoices.
- How often we text depends on the job, so message frequency varies.
- Message and data rates may apply.
- Reply STOP to end texts, or HELP for help.
- Agreeing to texts is not a condition of buying anything from us.
- We do not share or sell mobile numbers or text-message consent to third parties or affiliates for their marketing or promotional use.
The SMS Terms set out the program in full.
Keeping it and protecting it
We keep job and customer records for as long as the business needs them, including to meet tax and accounting rules and to answer warranty questions, and then delete them. Consent records for texts are kept for as long as they may be needed to show that you agreed. The site is served over HTTPS and only people who work on bookings can see customer records.
No website or email system can be made completely secure. If personal information of yours were involved in a security breach, we would notify you as Pennsylvania's breach notification law requires.
Your choices and requests
You can ask what we hold about you, ask for a correction or a copy, ask us to delete it (apart from records we are legally required to keep), or tell us to stop contacting you. We handle these requests for anyone, wherever they live. Your Privacy Rights explains how, and Do Not Sell or Share covers opt-outs.
Children
Booking a repair is something adults do, and this site is not directed at children under 13. Information from children is not something we knowingly gather. If you think a child has submitted details to us, get in touch and we will delete them.
Other websites
Links to manufacturers, parts suppliers or other outside sites take you somewhere our policy does not reach. Check the privacy policy of each site you visit.
Changes
If we change this policy, the date at the top will change with it. A change that alters how we use information we already hold will be posted here before it takes effect.
