KitchenAid Repair in Houses, Apartments and Rentals

KitchenAid is the upper end of the Whirlpool family, and in this area it tends to arrive as a full kitchen package: refrigerator, dishwasher, range or wall oven, often bought together during a remodel. We fix KitchenAid appliances independently, with no connection to KitchenAid's own service program, so anything still under the factory warranty should go back to the manufacturer first. Outside that, we diagnose at the house and quote before any work.

Basement laundry
In older houses the washer and dryer are often downstairs, past narrow steps and low beams, draining to a laundry tub or floor drain. Tell us how to get down there.
Rowhouses & older homes
New appliances often sit on old wiring, gas lines and vents. We check what feeds the machine as well as the machine.
Hillsides & parking
Steps up to the front door, permit-only blocks, alley entrances. A note about access when you book gets the visit started sooner.
Rentals & landlords
Tenants can book. The owner or manager gets the diagnosis and the price, and approves before any work.
Cold garages & porches
A spare fridge or freezer in an unheated space may stop holding temperature in winter without anything having failed. Check the manual's temperature range first.
Honest advice
If an older machine isn't worth the repair, we'll tell you so, and explain what actually broke.

How a Repair Visit Works

01

Describe the Problem

The brand, the model number if it's handy, and what the appliance is doing. A photo of the rating label is a bonus.

02

Diagnosis On Site

The technician tests the appliance and its power, water, drain, gas or vent until the failed part is found.

03

Explanation and Quote

You hear what failed and what the repair costs, then decide. Nothing starts without your OK.

04

Repair and Test

The part goes in, the appliance runs a cycle, and you see that it works before we leave.

KitchenAid

A mixer brand that moved into the kitchen

The KitchenAid name was born at the Hobart Manufacturing Company, which launched its stand mixer under that badge in 1919 and later sold KitchenAid dishwashers. Whirlpool Corporation bought the KitchenAid business in 1986 and grew it into a full line of major appliances.

Today a KitchenAid refrigerator, dishwasher or wall oven is engineered on Whirlpool platforms, with premium features, heavier trim and some brand-only parts. Much of the underlying hardware is shared with Whirlpool, Maytag and JennAir.

KitchenAid in local kitchens

The brand shows up most in renovated and newer kitchens: a remodeled 1920s house in Mt. Lebanon, a newer build in the North Hills, a Squirrel Hill home where the kitchen was redone in the last fifteen years. Built-in refrigerators and wall ovens mean more cabinetwork around the appliance, and the repair plan accounts for it.

Commercial-style dual-fuel ranges need gas for the burners and a heavy electric circuit for the oven, and the undercounter wine cellars often sit at the end of an island where airflow is tight.

What premium features add to a repair

KitchenAid layers on features such as third racks and fan-assisted drying in dishwashers, Even-Heat convection in ovens and built-in refrigerators with the machine compartment on top. Each adds parts that can fail and a place for the fault to hide. Because the base is Whirlpool's, the common wear parts are well supported, while panels, trim and some boards are specific to KitchenAid and can take longer to arrive.

KitchenAid, product by product

  • Refrigerators: French-door, counter-depth, side-by-side and built-in refrigerators, some with a top-mounted machine compartment. Ice makers, fan motors, defrost parts and water valves are frequent repairs.
  • Dishwashers: Third-rack dishwashers with ProWash cycles and fan-assisted drying. Clogged filters, drain pumps, inlet valves, door latches and drying fans are what we most often replace.
  • Ovens: Single, double and combination wall ovens with Even-Heat True Convection. Bake and broil elements, the convection element and fan, sensors and self-clean door locks fail most.
  • Microwaves: Over-the-range, built-in and combination wall oven microwaves. Magnetrons, door switches, vent fans, touch panels and convection elements on combination units fail most.
  • Freezers: Freezer drawers in French-door refrigerators and built-in freezer sections. We most often replace defrost heaters, ice makers, evaporator fans and gaskets there.
  • Cooktops: Gas, radiant electric and induction cooktops, including 36-inch five-burner models. Spark switches and modules, elements, touch controls and induction boards are common calls.
  • Wine Coolers: Undercounter wine cellars and beverage centers, often in islands. Condenser fans, thermistors, controls, door gaskets and compressor start faults are the usual repairs.
  • Stoves: Freestanding KitchenAid ranges used as the everyday stove. Oven igniters, bake elements, surface burners, spark switches and temperature sensors fail most.
  • Ranges: Slide-in and commercial-style dual-fuel ranges with Even-Heat convection. Oven igniters, convection fans, touch panels, sensors and burner ignition cause most repairs.

Getting KitchenAid parts

Because KitchenAid rides on Whirlpool platforms, pumps, valves, igniters, elements and sensors move through the same national parts network and often share numbers with Whirlpool and Maytag models. Brand-specific pieces are another story: stainless panels, handles, door trim and certain control boards may need to be ordered and can take longer. We look up your model and serial number, confirm stock during the diagnosis and tell you before using an equivalent part.

FAQ

KitchenAid: Questions We Hear

Quick answers to what people ask most. If yours isn't here, bring it up on the phone or type it into the notes box when you book.

Something else on your mind?

Reach out with the brand, the symptom and a model number if you have one. Some questions we can answer on the spot; the rest a technician can check in person.

Yes. Whirlpool Corporation has owned KitchenAid since 1986, and current KitchenAid major appliances are built on Whirlpool platforms. That helps with parts, although trim and some controls are unique to KitchenAid.

Very often. Replacing a built-in can mean new panels or cabinet changes, so a fan, valve, defrost part or board is usually the better choice. Sealed-system failures on older units need a harder look, and we explain the options.

Contact KitchenAid first. We work independently of KitchenAid, and covered repairs go through their own network. Once the warranty ends, we can diagnose and repair it.

No. We work on major appliances: refrigerators, dishwashers, ovens, ranges, cooktops, microwaves and wine cellars.
