GE Appliances Repair in Houses, Apartments and Rentals

GE Appliances is one of the most familiar names in American kitchens, and its parts network is broad. We are an independent repair service with no link to GE Appliances' own service network, so a unit still under GE's warranty should go to GE first. For everything else, we diagnose it at your home, explain the fault and quote the repair before starting any work.

Basement laundry
In older houses the washer and dryer are often downstairs, past narrow steps and low beams, draining to a laundry tub or floor drain. Tell us how to get down there.
Rowhouses & older homes
New appliances often sit on old wiring, gas lines and vents. We check what feeds the machine as well as the machine.
Hillsides & parking
Steps up to the front door, permit-only blocks, alley entrances. A note about access when you book gets the visit started sooner.
Rentals & landlords
Tenants can book. The owner or manager gets the diagnosis and the price, and approves before any work.
Cold garages & porches
A spare fridge or freezer in an unheated space may stop holding temperature in winter without anything having failed. Check the manual's temperature range first.
Honest advice
If an older machine isn't worth the repair, we'll tell you so, and explain what actually broke.

How a Repair Visit Works

01

Describe the Problem

The brand, the model number if it's handy, and what the appliance is doing. A photo of the rating label is a bonus.

02

Diagnosis On Site

The technician tests the appliance and its power, water, drain, gas or vent until the failed part is found.

03

Explanation and Quote

You hear what failed and what the repair costs, then decide. Nothing starts without your OK.

04

Repair and Test

The part goes in, the appliance runs a cycle, and you see that it works before we leave.

GE Appliances

Louisville engineering, Haier ownership

GE Appliances is headquartered at Appliance Park in Louisville, Kentucky, and has been owned by the Chinese appliance maker Haier since 2016. General Electric licenses the GE name to it. The company builds laundry and dishwashers in Louisville, refrigerators in Decatur, Alabama, and cooking products at other US plants.

Under that roof sit GE, GE Profile, Café, Monogram, Hotpoint and the Haier label itself. The first three share a lot of engineering, which matters when we look for parts.

GE in older and newer homes

GE has been in local kitchens for generations. It's common to find a GE range or top-freezer refrigerator in a rowhouse kitchen that hasn't been redone, next to a GE washer and dryer in the basement.

Builder-grade GE packages are standard in many suburban homes and apartment complexes, while GE Profile and Café appliances show up in renovated kitchens. Advantium speed-cook ovens are less common but do turn up, often above a cooktop.

Details that shape a GE repair

GE's oven codes are well documented: F3 and F4 point to the oven sensor circuit, and F7 points to the keypad. Many GE refrigerators put their main control board at the back of the unit and use an RFID-chipped RPWFE water filter on certain models, which the fridge checks before dispensing.

GE top-load washers use a motor, a shifter and a clutch in the drive system, and GE dryers use a belt-driven drum with rollers or glides depending on the model.

When a GE repair stops making sense

Most GE repairs are single parts: an igniter, a valve, a fan, a pump or a sensor. Those make sense on nearly any GE still in good condition.

A refrigerant leak or dead compressor in an older fridge, a washer transmission, or a discontinued control board on an older range are where replacing becomes worth considering. We give you both options and the reasons.

GE Appliances, product by product

  • Refrigerators: Top-freezer, side-by-side, French-door and bottom-freezer models across GE, Profile and Café. Defrost faults, fans, ice makers, water valves and main boards lead the list.
  • Washers: Top-loaders with agitators or impellers and front-loaders, including the combo UltraFast units. Pumps, lid locks, shifters and suspension are the usual repairs.
  • Dryers: Electric and gas dryers, standalone and paired with washers. Thermal fuses, heating elements, igniters, drive belts, rollers and glides account for most calls.
  • Dishwashers: Built-in GE, Profile and Café dishwashers built in Louisville. Drain pumps, inlet valves, door latches, heater circuits and control boards are common repairs.
  • Ovens: Wall ovens, double ovens and Advantium speed-cook units. Oven sensors, bake and broil elements, igniters, door locks and keypads fail most often.
  • Microwaves: Over-the-range and countertop microwaves, including Advantium speed-cook units. No-heat faults, door switches, fans, keypads and turntables are common.
  • Freezers: Upright and chest freezers and freezer sections of GE refrigerators. Defrost parts, evaporator fans, start relays and door gaskets drive most repairs.
  • Cooktops: Gas, radiant electric and induction cooktops across GE, Profile and Café. Igniters, spark modules, elements, switches and cracked glass come up most.
  • Wine Coolers: Built-in and freestanding wine and beverage centers, mostly Profile and Café. Thermistors, fans, door seals and control boards are the usual repairs.
  • Stoves: Freestanding gas and electric GE and Hotpoint-style stoves. Bake igniters, elements, surface burners and spark switches are the usual failures.
  • Ranges: Freestanding, slide-in and front-control ranges, gas, electric, induction and dual-fuel. Control boards, keypads, igniters, sensors and convection fans are common repairs.

Getting GE Appliances parts

GE parts are among the easiest to get. GE Appliances sells them directly and large distributors stock the common items, and many parts are shared between GE, GE Profile and Hotpoint, and sometimes Café. Older models sometimes carry a part that has been replaced by a newer number, and some control boards on older ranges and refrigerators are discontinued. We look up parts by model and serial number and tell you if the replacement is a different or equivalent part.

FAQ

GE Appliances: Questions We Hear

Quick answers to what people ask most. If yours isn't here, bring it up on the phone or type it into the notes box when you book.

Something else on your mind?

Reach out with the brand, the symptom and a model number if you have one. Some questions we can answer on the spot; the rest a technician can check in person.

Not in practice. GE Appliances still designs and builds most of its US lineup, and the parts system is the same. The GE name is licensed from General Electric. What matters for repair is the model number and parts availability.

Fix what's broken if the repair makes sense on its own. Appliances of the same age don't fail together on schedule. If you're renovating anyway, that changes the decision, and we'll tell you honestly which ones are worth keeping.

Not much. They share many parts with regular GE models, with more features added. Trim, handles and a few feature parts belong to one line only, and those may be backordered. We check before quoting.

We can, but you'll pay for it, while GE would cover it under warranty. Contact GE Appliances first. After the warranty ends, we can do the repair.
