Frigidaire Repair in Houses, Apartments and Rentals

Frigidaire is everywhere in rental kitchens, starter homes and basements, often as the second freezer or the range that came with the house. We service Frigidaire independently, outside Electrolux's service program, so while the factory warranty is running, the maker is your first call. For everything else, a technician diagnoses it at your home, explains what failed and quotes the repair before any work.

Basement laundry
In older houses the washer and dryer are often downstairs, past narrow steps and low beams, draining to a laundry tub or floor drain. Tell us how to get down there.
Rowhouses & older homes
New appliances often sit on old wiring, gas lines and vents. We check what feeds the machine as well as the machine.
Hillsides & parking
Steps up to the front door, permit-only blocks, alley entrances. A note about access when you book gets the visit started sooner.
Rentals & landlords
Tenants can book. The owner or manager gets the diagnosis and the price, and approves before any work.
Cold garages & porches
A spare fridge or freezer in an unheated space may stop holding temperature in winter without anything having failed. Check the manual's temperature range first.
Honest advice
If an older machine isn't worth the repair, we'll tell you so, and explain what actually broke.

How a Repair Visit Works

01

Describe the Problem

The brand, the model number if it's handy, and what the appliance is doing. A photo of the rating label is a bonus.

02

Diagnosis On Site

The technician tests the appliance and its power, water, drain, gas or vent until the failed part is found.

03

Explanation and Quote

You hear what failed and what the repair costs, then decide. Nothing starts without your OK.

04

Repair and Test

The part goes in, the appliance runs a cycle, and you see that it works before we leave.

Frigidaire

A name older than most of its competitors

Frigidaire traces back to 1918 and spent six decades owned by General Motors, long enough that some people still use the name to mean any refrigerator. GM sold the business in 1979 to White Consolidated Industries, which the Swedish company Electrolux bought in 1986.

Electrolux sells Frigidaire as its mainstream American brand, with Gallery and Professional as the step-up lines. Over the years Frigidaire factories also built appliances sold under other labels, Kenmore among them, so a store-brand unit can turn out to be a Frigidaire design.

Where Frigidaire turns up

Landlords like Frigidaire, so it is a constant in student rentals near Oakland and in the apartments carved out of older houses across the East End and North Side. Stacked laundry centers fit a closet or kitchen corner in those units. In the suburbs, a Frigidaire upright or chest freezer in the basement or garage is almost a tradition.

Gas ranges are common in houses that already have gas service, and plenty of older rowhouses still run a Frigidaire electric coil-top stove on a circuit that has seen decades of use.

Patterns we check first

Side-by-side refrigerators with the ice maker built into the freezer door have their own set of problems, mostly ice jams and frost. Older front-load washers and some dishwashers had known weak spots. And a freezer in a cold garage or unheated porch can struggle simply because of the room, not a failed part. We rule these out early in the diagnosis.

When a new Frigidaire makes more sense

Frigidaire appliances are usually affordable to replace, which keeps repair decisions honest. Valves, igniters, elements, switches, fans and defrost parts are worth doing. A refrigerant leak in an aging fridge, a failed front-load bearing or a main control board on an aging range may not be, and we say so before you spend money.

Frigidaire, product by product

  • Refrigerators: Refrigerators in every common layout, from basic top-freezers to Gallery and Professional French-doors. Door-mounted ice makers, defrost faults, evaporator fans and water valves are the usual calls.
  • Washers: Top-load and front-load washers plus stacked laundry centers in apartments. Lid switches, door locks, drain pumps, suspension parts and bearings are common repairs.
  • Dryers: Electric and gas dryers, including the dryer half of laundry centers. Thermal fuses, igniters, gas valve coils, heating elements, belts and drum rollers are what usually fail.
  • Dishwashers: Built-in and Gallery dishwashers with removable filters. Drain pumps, inlet valves, door latches, circulation motors and control boards cause most service calls.
  • Ovens: Single and double wall ovens, many with convection or air fry. Bake and broil elements, oven sensors, convection fans and self-clean door locks are frequent repairs.
  • Microwaves: Over-the-range, countertop and built-in microwaves. Units that hum without heating, burned interlock switches, noisy hood fans, stalled turntables and dead keypads make up most of the work.
  • Freezers: Upright and chest freezers, frost-free and manual defrost, plus Garage Ready and all-freezer column models. Defrost parts, start relays, fans and gaskets are the usual work.
  • Cooktops: Gas, radiant glass and induction cooktops. Spark switches and modules, surface elements, infinite switches, induction boards and cracked glass tops are the regular repairs.
  • Stoves: Freestanding gas, coil-top and glass-top electric stoves. Oven igniters, bake elements, coil receptacles, infinite switches and spark switches are the common failures.
  • Ranges: Front-control, slide-in and air fry ranges in Gallery and Professional lines. Touch controls, oven sensors, convection fans, igniters and induction boards are frequent work.

Getting Frigidaire parts

Frigidaire parts are widely stocked because so many units are in service, and Electrolux supplies them through a broad distributor network. Common wear items like igniters, valves, elements and defrost parts are rarely a problem. Older Gallery boards and some discontinued dispenser and ice maker parts are harder, and a few have been superseded by redesigned kits. We check your full model number before quoting and tell you when a part is an equivalent.

FAQ

Frigidaire: Questions We Hear

Quick answers to what people ask most. If yours isn't here, bring it up on the phone or type it into the notes box when you book.

Something else on your mind?

Reach out with the brand, the symptom and a model number if you have one. Some questions we can answer on the spot; the rest a technician can check in person.

The Electrolux Group. Frigidaire has been part of Electrolux since the 1980s, and it is the company's main American brand, alongside the Electrolux name itself.

It might be. Frigidaire factories built many Kenmore models over the years. The model number prefix tells us who built it, and then we order parts under that maker's numbers.

Frigidaire labels certain freezers Garage Ready; those models are meant for wider temperature swings. Others are built for heated spaces. Check your model's manual or ask us to look it up.

Contact the manufacturer first. We are independent, not part of the Electrolux or Frigidaire service network, and covered repairs go through them. Once the warranty ends, call or book online.
