About repairs in Oakdale, Imperial & McDonald

This is the western edge of our Pittsburgh map, out past Robinson Town Centre and the interchanges of the Parkway West. Robinson Run winds through Oakdale and on toward McDonald, the Panhandle Trail follows the route of the old Pennsylvania Railroad line beside it, and Imperial sits a few miles north along Route 30, close to Pittsburgh International Airport. Our West End and airport-corridor customers are the nearest neighbors on the map.

Local government is a patchwork. Oakdale is a borough of about half a square mile, ringed by North Fayette Township. Imperial is not a municipality at all but a community divided between Findlay and North Fayette. McDonald is a borough whose line with Washington County runs right through it. The houses follow that history: old borough streets in the valley, a former mining town, and newer township subdivisions on the hills.

Communities and ZIP codes in Oakdale, Imperial & McDonald

Oakdale borough and the surrounding part of North Fayette, including the Noblestown area (15071). The borough is compact and old, incorporated in 1892, with houses close to Robinson Run, while the township land around it holds farmsteads, scattered older homes and newer streets.

Imperial, Findlay Township and the neighboring part of North Fayette (15126). Imperial began around 1879 as a mining town of the Imperial Coal Company. Today the ZIP mixes those older village houses with subdivisions near Route 30, Route 576 and the airport business parks, and its outer edges brush the Beaver and Washington county lines.

McDonald borough and the countryside around it (15057). Most of this ZIP lies in Washington County. The borough itself straddles the county line, with the larger share of its residents on the Washington County side and a smaller share in Allegheny County, and the Panhandle and Montour trails meet just outside town.

Setting up a visit out west

When you call or book online, tell us the model if you can read it, what the appliance is doing, and where it stands. Out here that might be a garage, a basement reached by an outside door, or a laundry room at the end of a long driveway. If your lane is steep, unpaved or shared, say so, and mention any gate or dog. Every job starts with a diagnosis in the home, and we explain the price and get your approval before any work starts.

Old valley houses, newer hilltop homes

In the borough houses of Oakdale and McDonald, laundry usually lives in a basement that predates the washer by decades, so drains may run to an old laundry tub and dryer vents may pass through a stone or block foundation. Kitchens tend to be smaller, which pushes refrigerators into tight corners where the condenser has little room to breathe. Gas ranges and dryers are common where the house has a gas service.

The North Fayette and Findlay subdivisions are a different picture: attached garages, first-floor laundry rooms, bigger kitchens with ice-and-water refrigerators, built-in microwaves and wall ovens. These homes often add a second refrigerator or a chest freezer in the garage, which works fine until a hard January cold snap pushes that unheated space below the temperature range the unit was designed for.

Robinson Run and the low ground

Robinson Run is a small creek most of the year, but it drains a lot of hillside. In September 2004 the remnants of Hurricane Ivan flooded Oakdale badly enough to force large evacuations, and low ground along the run toward McDonald carries the same kind of risk in a heavy storm. Basement washers, dryers, freezers and water heaters are what sit lowest.

If an appliance has been standing in floodwater, leave it unplugged and the gas shut off until it has been checked. Water reaches motors, control boards, wiring harnesses and gas valves, and some parts that look dry can still fail later. Raising a washer and dryer on a sturdy platform and keeping a freezer off the floor are inexpensive ways to buy a margin in a low basement.

Winter, garages and water

January nights near 20°F test every unheated garage in the township subdivisions. A refrigerator out there may let its freezer section soften because the cold room never asks the compressor to run, and a water line to an ice maker in an exterior wall can freeze. Water service varies by municipality, and a few rural homes run on wells, but most of the area has moderately hard water that slowly scales dishwasher heaters, washer inlet screens and ice-maker valves.

FAQ

Questions People Here Ask Us

Quick answers to what people ask most. If yours isn't here, bring it up on the phone or type it into the notes box when you book.

Something else on your mind?

Reach out with the brand, the symptom and a model number if you have one. Some questions we can answer on the spot; the rest a technician can check in person.

Three: 15071 for Oakdale and the surrounding part of North Fayette, 15126 for Imperial, Findlay Township and part of North Fayette, and 15057 for McDonald and its surroundings, most of which is in Washington County. If your mailing address uses one of these ZIPs, you are inside this service area, whichever county or township your house is actually in.

Yes. The county line does not change anything about booking. McDonald borough is split between Allegheny and Washington counties, and the 15057 ZIP is mostly Washington County land, so we treat the whole ZIP as part of this area. Give us the street address when you book, and mention anything about the driveway or parking that would help.

Sometimes. A washer or dryer that took shallow water may only need a motor, pump or control board, while a unit that was submerged above its controls is often not worth the cost. The honest answer comes from a diagnosis in the home. Keep it unplugged and the gas off until then, and do not test it yourself.
