Whirlpool Repair in Houses, Apartments and Rentals
Whirlpool is the plain-label name of a company that also makes Maytag, KitchenAid, Amana and JennAir, so many of its parts are shared across those brands. We are an independent repair service, not a Whirlpool service center; an appliance still under Whirlpool's warranty should go to Whirlpool first. For everything else, we diagnose at your home, explain what failed and quote the repair before we start.
How a Repair Visit Works
Describe the Problem
The brand, the model number if it's handy, and what the appliance is doing. A photo of the rating label is a bonus.
Diagnosis On Site
The technician tests the appliance and its power, water, drain, gas or vent until the failed part is found.
Explanation and Quote
You hear what failed and what the repair costs, then decide. Nothing starts without your OK.
Repair and Test
The part goes in, the appliance runs a cycle, and you see that it works before we leave.

An American maker with Ohio roots
Whirlpool Corporation is based in Benton Harbor, Michigan, and it builds a large share of its US appliances in the Midwest. Top-load washers come out of Clyde, Ohio, dryers from Marion, Ohio, and dishwashers from Findlay, Ohio. Refrigerators, ranges and microwaves come from other plants in the US and abroad.
The same factories supply Maytag, KitchenAid and Amana, so the dishwasher wearing a Whirlpool badge and the one wearing a Maytag badge may differ only in panel and feature list.
Where Whirlpool turns up locally
Whirlpool is the brand people bought when they wanted a machine to last without fuss. Top-load washers and matching dryers sit in basements in split-levels and older rowhouses alike, often next to a laundry tub. Top-freezer and side-by-side refrigerators are common in rentals and older kitchens, and a lot of landlords standardize on Whirlpool because parts are so easy to get.
Newer kitchens have Whirlpool French-door refrigerators, slide-in ranges and dishwashers, and many apartment buildings use Whirlpool stacked laundry.
Shared platforms and model numbers
A Whirlpool model number tells us the platform, and the platform tells us which Maytag, Amana or KitchenAid parts fit. The belt-drive Whirlpool dryer, for example, has been built on the same basic design for decades, which is why its thermal fuses, rollers and belts are some of the most widely stocked parts in the trade.
Newer Whirlpool washers are electronic, with codes for long fill, long drain and lid lock problems. Older direct-drive top-loaders are simpler and still repairable.
Repair or replace a Whirlpool
Most Whirlpool repairs are single-part jobs: a pump, a valve, a lid lock, an element, a fan or a thermal fuse. Those are almost always worth doing.
The harder calls are sealed refrigeration leaks, washer transmissions and tub bearings, and main control boards on older units. In those cases we explain both sides and let you decide.
Whirlpool, product by product
- Refrigerators: Top-freezer, side-by-side, French-door and bottom-freezer models. Ice makers, water valves, defrost faults, evaporator and condenser fans, and door seals lead the list.
- Washers: Top-loaders with agitators or impellers, including older direct-drive models, and front-loaders. Lid locks, drive couplers, pumps and shifters are frequent repairs.
- Dryers: Electric and gas dryers on Whirlpool's long-running belt-drive platform. Thermal fuses, heating elements, igniters, belts and drum rollers are the usual repairs.
- Dishwashers: Built-in dishwashers made in Findlay, Ohio, most with a manual-clean filter. Drain pumps, inlet valves, door latches, heaters and clogged filters are common.
- Ovens: Wall ovens and the oven cavities of Whirlpool ranges. Bake and broil elements, oven sensors, igniters, door locks and control boards fail most often.
- Microwaves: Over-the-range models that double as the hood, plus countertop units. No-heat faults, door switches, vent fans, keypads and turntable motors are typical.
- Freezers: Upright and chest freezers and the freezer sections of Whirlpool refrigerators. Defrost parts, fan motors, start relays and door seals are the usual repairs.
- Cooktops: Gas, radiant electric and induction cooktops. Igniters, spark modules, surface elements, infinite switches and cracked glass tops come up most.
- Stoves: Freestanding gas and electric stoves in kitchens of every age. Oven igniters, bake elements, surface elements, receptacles and spark switches fail most.
- Ranges: Freestanding, front-control and slide-in ranges, gas and electric. Control boards, touch panels, oven sensors, igniters and convection fans are common repairs.
Getting Whirlpool parts
Whirlpool runs its own parts store, and a large distributor network carries its catalog too, and the same part number often fits Maytag, KitchenAid and Amana models. That makes common parts easy to stock and quick to arrive. Some older control boards and trim pieces are discontinued, and the replacement is sometimes an updated part with a different number. We order by the full model number, and we tell you if the part is an equivalent rather than the original.
Whirlpool: Questions We Hear
Quick answers to what people ask most. If yours isn't here, bring it up on the phone or type it into the notes box when you book.
Something else on your mind?
Reach out with the brand, the symptom and a model number if you have one. Some questions we can answer on the spot; the rest a technician can check in person.
Often it shares a platform with one. Whirlpool Corporation owns all of those brands, and many models share pumps, valves, motors and boards. The differences are in styling, features and some components. We look up parts by your model number rather than assuming.
Call your landlord or property manager first. When the unit came with the apartment, fixing it is normally the owner's job. If they want us to come out, they can book and tell us who approves the cost.
On refrigerators, inside the fresh-food section on a side wall or ceiling. Washers put it under the lid or on the console's back edge; dryers, just inside the door opening. Dishwashers carry it on the inner door rim or tub side; ranges hide it behind the bottom drawer or on the oven frame.
Many do. Whirlpool's long-running dryer and top-load washer designs are well supported. Some electronic boards and trim for older refrigerators and ranges are discontinued. We check supply before recommending a repair.
