Maytag Repair in Houses, Apartments and Rentals
Maytag laundry is a fixture of Pittsburgh basements, and the brand turns up in kitchens across the county too. We are an independent shop, with no tie to Maytag or Whirlpool's service program, so a machine still inside its factory warranty should be sent to the maker first. After that, we diagnose it where it sits, explain which part gave out, and give you a price to approve before anything is taken apart.
How a Repair Visit Works
Describe the Problem
The brand, the model number if it's handy, and what the appliance is doing. A photo of the rating label is a bonus.
Diagnosis On Site
The technician tests the appliance and its power, water, drain, gas or vent until the failed part is found.
Explanation and Quote
You hear what failed and what the repair costs, then decide. Nothing starts without your OK.
Repair and Test
The part goes in, the appliance runs a cycle, and you see that it works before we leave.

Who builds a Maytag now
Maytag began in Newton, Iowa, in the 1890s as a farm-equipment maker and moved into washing machines early in the twentieth century. For decades it was Whirlpool's direct rival. Whirlpool Corporation bought Maytag in 2006, and the Newton works closed soon after.
Any recent Maytag is a Whirlpool-platform machine with its own styling and feature list. That matters when something breaks: the pump, lid lock, valve or igniter inside it is frequently the same part number used in a Whirlpool, Amana or KitchenAid of the same era.
Where Maytags live in local homes
The washer and dryer pair on a concrete basement floor, next to an old laundry tub, is the classic setting here, whether in a city rowhouse or a Baldwin ranch. Gas dryers are common because so many houses already have gas service for the furnace and water heater. In the kitchen, Maytag refrigerators, ranges and over-the-range microwaves show up in suburban split-levels, in rentals near the universities and in plenty of flipped houses.
Older machines stay in service a long time in this area. It is still normal to find a Maytag Neptune front-loader or a Maytag-era refrigerator built at the Amana plant in Iowa, and those are different animals from today's lineup.
Features that change the repair
A few Maytag-specific features add parts that a plain Whirlpool doesn't have. Pet Pro washers carry a removable hair filter. Dual Power Filtration dishwashers pair a fine filter with a stainless chopper blade. Some washers and dryers are sold with Commercial Technology, meaning a heavier motor and drive. Each of these can be tested on its own, which keeps the diagnosis short.
Repair or replace
On a Whirlpool-era Maytag, most failures are single wear parts and are worth fixing. The harder calls are a leaking sealed system in a refrigerator, a worn transmission or tub bearing in a washer, and anything on a pre-2006 machine whose board or motor is no longer produced. We check supply for your model number before quoting and tell you plainly when the numbers point to a new machine.
Maytag, product by product
- Refrigerators: French-door, side-by-side and top-freezer refrigerators on Whirlpool platforms, some with the PowerCold fast-chill button. Ice makers, inlet valves, defrost parts and fan motors are the usual work.
- Washers: Top-load agitator and impeller washers, Pet Pro models and front-loaders, plus older Bravos and Neptune machines. Lid locks, drain pumps, shifters, couplers and suspension parts fail most.
- Dryers: Electric and gas dryers, including Commercial Technology and steam models. Blown thermal fuses from clogged vents, igniters, heating elements, belts, rollers and idler pulleys lead the list.
- Dishwashers: Dual Power Filtration dishwashers with a filter and stainless chopper, many with a third rack. Clogged filters, drain pumps, inlet valves, door latches and wash motors are common repairs.
- Ovens: Single, double and microwave-combination wall ovens from the Whirlpool family. Bake and broil elements, temperature sensors, convection fans and self-clean door locks are frequent fixes.
- Microwaves: Over-the-range microwaves that also vent the cooktop, plus some countertop units. Most calls involve a unit that runs cold, an interlock switch, a hood fan, the turntable drive or a worn keypad.
- Freezers: Freezer compartments in Maytag refrigerators plus upright and chest freezers, many kept in basements. Defrost heaters, start relays, fan motors and tired door gaskets cause most failures.
- Cooktops: Built-in gas, radiant glass and induction cooktops. Ignition parts, burner switches, radiant elements, infinite switches and broken glass are what we replace most.
- Stoves: Freestanding gas and electric stoves with rear controls. Bake igniters, bake and surface elements, burned surface-element receptacles and spark switches are what usually fail.
- Ranges: Front-control, slide-in and convection ranges, including Power Preheat and Power Burner models. Touch controls, oven sensors, convection fans and igniters account for most calls.
Getting Maytag parts
Current Maytags draw from Whirlpool's parts pipeline, so the common wear parts are stocked by the national distributors and usually cross-reference to Whirlpool, Amana and KitchenAid numbers. Machines designed before the 2006 buyout are harder: some Neptune boards, older refrigerator controls and certain transmissions are discontinued or survive only as rebuilt stock. We look up your full model number before quoting and tell you if a part is an equivalent rather than the original.
Maytag: Questions We Hear
Quick answers to what people ask most. If yours isn't here, bring it up on the phone or type it into the notes box when you book.
Something else on your mind?
Reach out with the brand, the symptom and a model number if you have one. Some questions we can answer on the spot; the rest a technician can check in person.
In places. Commercial Technology models use a heavier motor and drive, and Maytag's dishwashers add a chopper. Underneath, though, the platform is Whirlpool's and most wear parts are shared, so the repair process and parts supply are nearly the same for both badges.
Sometimes. Door locks, pumps and some boards are still sold, occasionally as redesigned kits. Other parts, especially certain motor control boards, have become scarce. We confirm what exists for your exact model before recommending money go into it.
Rarely. Nearly all washer, dryer and refrigerator repairs are done in place, so the machine doesn't need to travel up the steps. We just need room to pull it a little away from the wall and a working light near it.
We are independent, not a Maytag or Whirlpool service provider, so an in-warranty appliance should go through the manufacturer first. Once that coverage has run out, call or book online and we'll diagnose it at your home.
