Dryer repair in Murrysville, Irwin & Trafford: what to know
Dryers here are split between gas and electric, often depending on the age of the house and whether a gas line was already run to the laundry. Lower-level laundries usually vent through a rim joist or a short wall, while older borough basements may have a longer run snaking toward a window well or foundation opening. Winter matters too: a vent hood packed with snow or frost can stop exhaust just as surely as lint.
Finding the cause when a dryer runs but won't heat
On an electric dryer the technician checks for 240 volts at the terminal block first, because a tripped breaker leg will let the drum turn without heat. Then the heating element, high-limit and cycling thermostats and the thermal fuse are tested for continuity. On a gas dryer the sequence moves to the igniter, flame sensor and gas valve coils, watching whether the igniter glows and the valve opens. In both types, a blown thermal fuse is treated as a symptom: the technician looks for the restricted vent or failing blower that caused it before the dryer is put back in service, so the new part doesn't fail the same way.
Vents, outdoor hoods and lower-level laundries
Go outside while the dryer runs and feel for strong airflow at the hood. Weak flow means lint, a crushed transition duct behind the machine or a stuck damper flap. Replace any foil or plastic duct with semi-rigid metal. If you smell gas near a gas dryer, shut the supply valve, leave the house and call your gas utility first.

Something else on your mind?
Reach out with the brand, the symptom and a model number if you have one. Some questions we can answer on the spot; the rest a technician can check in person.
Not always. A partly blocked vent is the most likely cause of slow drying, and it also overheats the dryer. Clean the lint screen housing and check airflow at the outdoor hood. If air moves freely and the dryer still runs cool, the heating element, gas valve coils or a cycling thermostat may be at fault, and that calls for testing.
