Dishwasher repair in Braddock & West Mifflin: what to know
In many 15104 houses the dishwasher arrived decades after the kitchen did, fitted into a base cabinet with a drain teed into an old sink trap and a supply line run from wherever was handy. West Mifflin kitchens more often had one from a remodel. Hard-ish water from the river supply leaves a white film over time, and a slow sink drain shows up first as water left in the dishwasher tub.
Following the water: fill, wash, drain
A dishwasher that will not start may have a faulty door switch, a blown thermal fuse on the control, or simply a tripped circuit shared with the disposal. If it starts but cleans poorly, we check the fill amount first: a scaled inlet valve screen or low water pressure means too little water to spray. Next come the spray arms, whose small holes clog with scale and food, and the filter assembly under the lower arm. Water left after the cycle points to the drain path: a clogged air gap, a kinked hose, a disposal knockout plug never removed, or a failed drain pump. Leaks at the door are usually the tub gasket or a cracked spray arm throwing water at the vent.
Old sink traps and makeshift supply lines
In older homes the dishwasher drain often joins a sink trap that is partly blocked or set too low, letting dirty water siphon back into the tub. Look for a high loop in the drain hose under the sink. If the supply comes off a corroded shutoff that will not turn, mention it when you book, because we need the water off before replacing a valve.

Reach out with the brand, the symptom and a model number if you have one. Some questions we can answer on the spot; the rest a technician can check in person.
Usually it is mineral film from moderately hard water, which builds up faster if the rinse-aid dispenser is empty or the water is not hot enough. Run the kitchen tap until hot before starting a cycle. If the film remains, a scaled heating element or a weak inlet valve may be cutting the wash short, which we can test.
