Oven repair in Braddock & West Mifflin: what to know
Gas ovens are common in the older Braddock-side houses, where natural gas has served kitchens for generations and ranges get replaced on the same gas stub over and over. In West Mifflin you find a mix of gas, electric and the occasional wall oven from a kitchen update. The oven complaint is usually the same in both: dinner takes too long or the temperature wanders.
Working out why the oven will not reach temperature
On a gas oven that will not heat, we watch the igniter. A glow bar that turns orange but never opens the gas valve has weakened; it needs to draw enough current to open the safety valve, and an aging igniter falls short. If there is no glow at all, we test the control output and wiring. On electric ovens, a bake element can fail with a visible blister or test open while looking fine. In both types a temperature sensor out of range makes the control overshoot or undershoot, so we measure its resistance at room temperature and compare it to the chart. Control boards are tested last, since they are expensive and are often blamed for faults elsewhere.
Gas shutoffs and range moves in older kitchens
To reach an igniter or valve, the range usually has to come out from the wall. In 15104 kitchens the gas shutoff behind it may be an old valve that has not turned in years. Do not force it, and if you smell gas, leave and call the gas utility. When you book, tell us if the range is wedged between cabinets or sits on an uneven floor.

Something else on your mind?
Reach out with the brand, the symptom and a model number if you have one. Some questions we can answer on the spot; the rest a technician can check in person.
A delay of up to a minute or so is normal while the igniter heats. A long delay with a brief gas smell before ignition often means a weak igniter letting gas build up slightly. Stop using the oven if the smell is strong or lingers, and have it tested; replacing a worn igniter is a routine repair.
