Maytag Washer Repair in Houses, Apartments and Rentals

We have no affiliation with Maytag and are not one of its service centers. A washer still covered by the Maytag warranty belongs with Maytag first. Once it's out of coverage, give us the model number and the symptom when you book so we can look into parts ahead of time.

Basement laundry
In older houses the washer and dryer are often downstairs, past narrow steps and low beams, draining to a laundry tub or floor drain. Tell us how to get down there.
Rowhouses & older homes
New appliances often sit on old wiring, gas lines and vents. We check what feeds the machine as well as the machine.
Hillsides & parking
Steps up to the front door, permit-only blocks, alley entrances. A note about access when you book gets the visit started sooner.
Rentals & landlords
Tenants can book. The owner or manager gets the diagnosis and the price, and approves before any work.
Cold garages & porches
A spare fridge or freezer in an unheated space may stop holding temperature in winter without anything having failed. Check the manual's temperature range first.
Honest advice
If an older machine isn't worth the repair, we'll tell you so, and explain what actually broke.

How a Washer Repair Visit Works

01

Describe the Problem

The brand, the model number if it's handy, and what the appliance is doing. A photo of the rating label is a bonus.

02

Diagnosis On Site

The technician tests the appliance and its power, water, drain, gas or vent until the failed part is found.

03

Explanation and Quote

You hear what failed and what the repair costs, then decide. Nothing starts without your OK.

04

Repair and Test

The part goes in, the appliance runs a cycle, and you see that it works before we leave.

How Maytag builds its washers

Maytag top-loaders from the Bravos era onward use Whirlpool's lid-lock system, and a lock that can't confirm it has latched shows up as an F5 E2 style code and a washer that fills but won't agitate or spin. Other regulars: a drain pump clogged by a sock, a worn drive coupler that lets the motor run while the basket sits still, and a shifter that fails to change modes. Pet Pro models add a removable filter that must be emptied or water drains slowly. Front-loaders fail at the door lock, pump and door boot. In an older basement, check that the drain standpipe isn't overflowing into the laundry tub before blaming the machine.

Parts that tend to fail on Maytag washers

  • Lid lock failing to engage (F5 E2)
  • Drain pump jammed by a small item
  • Drive coupler worn, no agitation
  • Pet Pro filter packed with hair
  • Shifter not changing between wash and spin

FAQ

Maytag Washer: Questions We Hear

Quick answers to what people ask most. If yours isn't here, bring it up on the phone or type it into the notes box when you book.

Something else on your mind?

Reach out with the brand, the symptom and a model number if you have one. Some questions we can answer on the spot; the rest a technician can check in person.

On Whirlpool-built top-loaders it points to the lid lock. The lid switch, the lock motor, a broken striker or a wiring fault can each cause it. We test the lock circuit before replacing anything, since a sticky lid can mimic a bad lock.

Usually not. Modern washers pump out fast, and an older drain line or standpipe partly blocked by lint can't keep up. The house drain may need clearing. We'll confirm the pump is fine before you call a plumber.
