Amana Washer Repair in Houses, Apartments and Rentals

We have no affiliation with Amana and are not one of its service centers. A washer still covered by the Amana warranty belongs with Amana first. Once it's out of coverage, give us the model number and the symptom when you book so we can look into parts ahead of time.

Basement laundry
In older houses the washer and dryer are often downstairs, past narrow steps and low beams, draining to a laundry tub or floor drain. Tell us how to get down there.
Rowhouses & older homes
New appliances often sit on old wiring, gas lines and vents. We check what feeds the machine as well as the machine.
Hillsides & parking
Steps up to the front door, permit-only blocks, alley entrances. A note about access when you book gets the visit started sooner.
Rentals & landlords
Tenants can book. The owner or manager gets the diagnosis and the price, and approves before any work.
Cold garages & porches
A spare fridge or freezer in an unheated space may stop holding temperature in winter without anything having failed. Check the manual's temperature range first.
Honest advice
If an older machine isn't worth the repair, we'll tell you so, and explain what actually broke.

How a Washer Repair Visit Works

01

Describe the Problem

The brand, the model number if it's handy, and what the appliance is doing. A photo of the rating label is a bonus.

02

Diagnosis On Site

The technician tests the appliance and its power, water, drain, gas or vent until the failed part is found.

03

Explanation and Quote

You hear what failed and what the repair costs, then decide. Nothing starts without your OK.

04

Repair and Test

The part goes in, the appliance runs a cycle, and you see that it works before we leave.

What's inside an Amana washer

Most Amana washers are Whirlpool-built top-loaders with an agitator and simple controls, and some older ones are the classic direct-drive design, where a small plastic-and-rubber coupler links the motor shaft to the transmission. That coupler is a deliberate weak point: it wears or breaks so the motor and transmission are spared, and a washer that takes water and pumps it out, yet never moves the clothes, often has a broken coupler. Newer Amana top-loaders use a lid lock and a shifter. Agitator dogs wear on dual-action agitators, leaving the top section limp. In a basement laundry, a laundry tub or standpipe that drains slowly makes the washer seem to fail, so the drain gets checked too.

Parts that tend to fail on Amana washers

  • Motor coupler broken on direct-drive models
  • Lid switch or lock failing
  • Drain pump clogged
  • Agitator dogs worn
  • Shifter not changing modes

Symptoms that aren't specific to one maker are covered on our washer repair page.

FAQ

Amana Washer: Questions We Hear

Quick answers to what people ask most. If yours isn't here, bring it up on the phone or type it into the notes box when you book.

Something else on your mind?

Reach out with the brand, the symptom and a model number if you have one. Some questions we can answer on the spot; the rest a technician can check in person.

On older direct-drive models, the motor coupler is the usual cause. On newer ones, the shifter or lid lock may be at fault. Worn agitator dogs can also leave the top of the agitator spinning freely.

Probably not. The washer is pumping out faster than the tub drain can carry the water away. A clogged tub drain or old drain pipe is the usual cause. We check the washer's pump and hose, then point you to what needs clearing.
