GE Appliances Dryer Repair in Houses, Apartments and Rentals

We have no affiliation with GE Appliances and are not one of its service centers. A dryer still covered by the GE Appliances warranty belongs with GE Appliances first. Once it's out of coverage, give us the model number and the symptom when you book so we can look into parts ahead of time.

Basement laundry
In older houses the washer and dryer are often downstairs, past narrow steps and low beams, draining to a laundry tub or floor drain. Tell us how to get down there.
Rowhouses & older homes
New appliances often sit on old wiring, gas lines and vents. We check what feeds the machine as well as the machine.
Hillsides & parking
Steps up to the front door, permit-only blocks, alley entrances. A note about access when you book gets the visit started sooner.
Rentals & landlords
Tenants can book. The owner or manager gets the diagnosis and the price, and approves before any work.
Cold garages & porches
A spare fridge or freezer in an unheated space may stop holding temperature in winter without anything having failed. Check the manual's temperature range first.
Honest advice
If an older machine isn't worth the repair, we'll tell you so, and explain what actually broke.

How a Dryer Repair Visit Works

01

Describe the Problem

The brand, the model number if it's handy, and what the appliance is doing. A photo of the rating label is a bonus.

02

Diagnosis On Site

The technician tests the appliance and its power, water, drain, gas or vent until the failed part is found.

03

Explanation and Quote

You hear what failed and what the repair costs, then decide. Nothing starts without your OK.

04

Repair and Test

The part goes in, the appliance runs a cycle, and you see that it works before we leave.

How GE Appliances builds its dryers

GE dryers use a belt-driven drum. Depending on the model, the drum rides on rear rollers and front glides or on bearings, and those parts wear out and cause squeaks or thumps. Electric models have a heating element in a duct with a thermal fuse and high-limit thermostat, while gas models use an igniter and gas valve coils. When a GE dryer tumbles cold, the cause is usually a blown fuse or a failed element or igniter, and often a restricted vent is behind it. In older homes, many dryers vent a long way through the basement, and long runs collect lint. We check the vent on every no-heat call.

Parts that tend to fail on GE Appliances dryers

  • Thermal fuse blown from vent restriction
  • Heating element burned out
  • Gas igniter or valve coils failed
  • Drum glides or rollers worn
  • Drive belt broken

FAQ

GE Appliances Dryer: Questions We Hear

Quick answers to what people ask most. If yours isn't here, bring it up on the phone or type it into the notes box when you book.

Something else on your mind?

Reach out with the brand, the symptom and a model number if you have one. Some questions we can answer on the spot; the rest a technician can check in person.

Possibly, but the thermal fuse or thermostat is just as likely, and a clogged vent is often the root cause. We test each part and inspect the vent, so the repair doesn't just fail again.

Worn drum glides or a failed bearing let the drum rub against the front bulkhead. We replace the worn parts and check the drum and belt for damage.
