Maytag Dryer Repair in Houses, Apartments and Rentals

We have no affiliation with Maytag and are not one of its service centers. A dryer still covered by the Maytag warranty belongs with Maytag first. Once it's out of coverage, give us the model number and the symptom when you book so we can look into parts ahead of time.

Basement laundry
In older houses the washer and dryer are often downstairs, past narrow steps and low beams, draining to a laundry tub or floor drain. Tell us how to get down there.
Rowhouses & older homes
New appliances often sit on old wiring, gas lines and vents. We check what feeds the machine as well as the machine.
Hillsides & parking
Steps up to the front door, permit-only blocks, alley entrances. A note about access when you book gets the visit started sooner.
Rentals & landlords
Tenants can book. The owner or manager gets the diagnosis and the price, and approves before any work.
Cold garages & porches
A spare fridge or freezer in an unheated space may stop holding temperature in winter without anything having failed. Check the manual's temperature range first.
Honest advice
If an older machine isn't worth the repair, we'll tell you so, and explain what actually broke.

How a Dryer Repair Visit Works

01

Describe the Problem

The brand, the model number if it's handy, and what the appliance is doing. A photo of the rating label is a bonus.

02

Diagnosis On Site

The technician tests the appliance and its power, water, drain, gas or vent until the failed part is found.

03

Explanation and Quote

You hear what failed and what the repair costs, then decide. Nothing starts without your OK.

04

Repair and Test

The part goes in, the appliance runs a cycle, and you see that it works before we leave.

How Maytag builds its dryers

Maytag dryers of the Whirlpool era are simple to diagnose because most no-heat faults trace to a few parts. Electric models have a thermal fuse on the blower housing, a high-limit and a cycling thermostat, and a heater coil; gas models use a glowing igniter, a flame sensor and two gas valve coils. When the thermal fuse has blown, restricted exhaust is nearly always behind it, so the vent run gets checked before the fuse is replaced. Some models also have a Check Vent light. Noise usually comes from drum rollers, the idler pulley or a stretched belt. Older homes sometimes have a three-prong dryer outlet, and the cord has to be wired to match.

Parts that tend to fail on Maytag dryers

  • Thermal fuse blown by a clogged vent
  • Gas valve coils failing, no flame
  • Heater coil broken on electric models
  • Drum rollers or idler pulley thumping
  • Moisture sensor ending cycles too early

The general dryer repair guide covers faults that turn up on every make.

FAQ

Maytag Dryer: Questions We Hear

Quick answers to what people ask most. If yours isn't here, bring it up on the phone or type it into the notes box when you book.

Something else on your mind?

Reach out with the brand, the symptom and a model number if you have one. Some questions we can answer on the spot; the rest a technician can check in person.

When the igniter glows and then goes out with no flame, weak gas valve coils are a common cause. The flame sensor is tested too. We shut the gas off before working on the valve and leak-check any fitting we open.

The light measures airflow, so it usually means lint in the vent, a crushed foil hose or an exterior hood that's stuck. Clean the full run first. If the light persists with a clear vent, we test the sensor and thermistor.
