AGA Repair in Houses, Apartments and Rentals
The AGA cooker was invented in Sweden in the 1920s and has long been cast and built in England. The brand sits within AGA Rangemaster Group, which The Middleby Corporation acquired in 2015. Two quite different appliances carry the name: the classic cast-iron heat-storage cooker, whose ovens and hotplates draw heat from a single source, and more conventional range cookers with burners and fan ovens. We repair both independently. If yours is still under the maker's warranty, contact AGA first.
How a Repair Visit Works
Describe the Problem
The brand, the model number if it's handy, and what the appliance is doing. A photo of the rating label is a bonus.
Diagnosis On Site
The technician tests the appliance and its power, water, drain, gas or vent until the failed part is found.
Explanation and Quote
You hear what failed and what the repair costs, then decide. Nothing starts without your OK.
Repair and Test
The part goes in, the appliance runs a cycle, and you see that it works before we leave.

AGA Products We Service
One badge, two kinds of cooker
A traditional AGA has no oven knobs in the usual sense. One heat source, gas or electric, warms a mass of cast iron that feeds the ovens and the two hotplates under their insulated lids. Newer electric versions such as the Total Control let the owner switch parts of the cooker on and off, so they carry more elements and electronics.
AGA-branded range cookers are closer to a standard range: gas or induction on top, fan ovens and a grill below. Their faults look like those of other European ranges, not like a heat-storage cooker's.
The houses that suit an AGA
Heat-storage cookers are heavy and give off warmth all day, which makes them a natural fit for large older homes with big kitchens: Victorian and early 20th-century houses, farmhouse-style renovations and roomy suburban kitchens where the cooker was chosen as a centerpiece. Winter makes the constant warmth welcome; a humid July makes some owners turn it down.
The weight matters in older houses, as does the flue on gas models. Before any repair that involves moving panels or the cooker itself, we check how it was set in and vented.
Servicing a cooker that is always on
A heat-storage AGA holds so much heat that it has to be switched off and left to cool, often for many hours, before internal work is safe. We plan those visits ahead with you so the cooker is cold when we arrive and you aren't without it longer than needed.
Parts travel a long way
Many AGA parts originate in the UK. Common burners, elements and thermostats can usually be sourced, but specific castings, lids and older controls may take time. We confirm the part from the model and serial plate before ordering and give you an honest idea of the wait.
AGA, product by product
- Ovens: Cast-iron roasting, baking and simmering ovens on heat-storage models, plus the fan and conventional ovens of AGA range cookers. Elements, thermostats, fans and door hinges are the usual repairs.
- Cooktops: Boiling and simmering hotplates with insulated lids on heat-storage cookers, and gas or induction hobs on range cookers. Slow hotplates, ignition and induction faults are common calls.
- Stoves: The AGA as a whole cooker, the way owners live with it: running cooler than it should, a gas burner that soots or cuts out, or electric heat that has faded.
- Ranges: AGA range cookers in dual-fuel, gas and induction versions with several oven cavities. Repairs include fan elements, convection motors, spark ignition, thermostats and door glass.
Getting AGA parts
AGA parts come through the brand's North American distribution, with many items sourced from the UK. Burners, heating elements, thermostats and igniters for current cookers are generally obtainable; castings, lid parts and controls for older models can take longer or be discontinued. We identify the part from the cooker's plate during the diagnosis, use genuine AGA parts where available, and tell you when an equivalent is the only option.
AGA: Questions We Hear
Quick answers to what people ask most. If yours isn't here, bring it up on the phone or type it into the notes box when you book.
Something else on your mind?
Reach out with the brand, the symptom and a model number if you have one. Some questions we can answer on the spot; the rest a technician can check in person.
For a traditional heat-storage model, yes. It is designed to stay warm so the ovens and hotplates are ready. Newer controllable models can be turned down or partly switched off. If the whole cooker is noticeably cooler than usual, something in the heat source needs checking.
The cast iron stores a lot of heat, and many parts sit right next to it. Working on a hot cooker risks burns and damage. We tell you when to switch it off before the visit so it has time to cool.
Yes. Range cookers are more like standard ranges, with burners, fan ovens and electronic controls, and we diagnose them the same way we would any European range.
Often, because the basic design has stayed similar for a long time. Availability depends on the specific part and model. We check before quoting and tell you if a key part is no longer made.
