Fisher & Paykel Repair in Houses, Apartments and Rentals
Fisher & Paykel started in New Zealand and has been owned by Haier since 2012. We have no connection to either company and are not an authorized service center, so a Fisher & Paykel still inside its warranty should go to the maker first. For anything past that point, we diagnose the appliance in your kitchen or laundry, explain the fault and quote the repair before any work begins.
How a Repair Visit Works
Describe the Problem
The brand, the model number if it's handy, and what the appliance is doing. A photo of the rating label is a bonus.
Diagnosis On Site
The technician tests the appliance and its power, water, drain, gas or vent until the failed part is found.
Explanation and Quote
You hear what failed and what the repair costs, then decide. Nothing starts without your OK.
Repair and Test
The part goes in, the appliance runs a cycle, and you see that it works before we leave.

A New Zealand maker with its own ideas
Fisher & Paykel grew up in New Zealand and still does much of its design work there. It has long preferred its own answers to the industry's usual ones: dishwashers built as drawers, washers turned directly by a motor with no belt or gearbox, and refrigerators that time their defrost around how the doors are actually used.
Back in the mid-2000s it bought DCS, the California pro-style cooking brand, and that style of cooking now carries the Fisher & Paykel name. Haier's purchase in 2012 tied the company to a much larger manufacturing and parts base. The result is that two Fisher & Paykel appliances a decade apart can share almost nothing inside.
Where Fisher & Paykel fits in local kitchens
Drawer dishwashers and integrated refrigeration suit the tight layouts of older Pittsburgh houses, where a remodel has to work around original walls and chimneys. DishDrawers show up in rowhouse kitchens in Lawrenceville and on the South Side, and in Downtown and Strip District condos where a full-size dishwasher didn't suit the design.
Bigger Fisher & Paykel suites, with column refrigeration, wall ovens and a pro-style range, appear in larger remodels in places like Squirrel Hill, Mt. Lebanon and Fox Chapel. The laundry pair is less common but still around, sometimes in a basement it reached by way of narrow stairs.
Designs that change the diagnosis
A DishDrawer is two small dishwashers stacked in one cabinet, each with its own pump, heater, lid and electronics, fed through hoses and cables that flex every time the drawer moves. SmartDrive washers turn the drum with a direct-drive motor, and the control reads the motor to manage wash and spin, so a spin complaint can start at the motor's position sensing rather than a belt.
ActiveSmart refrigerators adapt defrost to door use, and many run separate fans and sensors for each compartment. On all of these, the model number decides which service information applies, and we confirm it before any part is ordered.
Parts supply and wait times
Fisher & Paykel supplies parts for the American market through its own North American channel, and common items such as DishDrawer lid seals, drain filters, oven elements and refrigerator fans are usually easy to get. Less common boards and cosmetic parts can take longer. You get the expected wait at the diagnosis, before you commit to the repair.
Fisher & Paykel, product by product
- Refrigerators: ActiveSmart freestanding models, integrated column refrigerators and French-door built-ins. Fans, sensors, ice makers, defrost faults and door alignment make up most repairs.
- Washers: Top-load and front-load washers, many with the direct-drive SmartDrive motor. Motor and position-sensing faults, drain pumps, suspension and lid or door locks are typical.
- Dryers: Vented dryers, electric and gas, often paired with a Fisher & Paykel washer. Thermal fuses, heating elements, belts, drum rollers and moisture sensors are the usual work.
- Dishwashers: Mostly DishDrawer models, single or double, plus some conventional built-ins. Lid seals, drain filters and pumps, hose and cable wear and control faults are common.
- Ovens: Built-in wall ovens, many with pyrolytic self-clean, plus combination steam and speed ovens. Elements, fans, sensors, door locks and controls wear most.
- Microwaves: Built-in microwave ovens, combination speed ovens and microwave drawers under counters or islands. No-heat faults, drawer mechanisms and control failures are typical.
- Freezers: Integrated column freezers and the freezer drawers of ActiveSmart units. Defrost parts, fans, ice makers, drawer runners and door seals account for most faults.
- Cooktops: Gas, induction and radiant electric cooktops and rangetops. Spark ignition, induction power boards and cooling fans, glass-top elements and touch controls are typical repairs.
- Stoves: Freestanding Fisher & Paykel ranges that owners call stoves, in gas, electric, induction or dual-fuel. Oven ignition or elements, burner lighting and door hardware come up most.
- Ranges: Freestanding and professional-style ranges, the larger ones rooted in DCS designs. Igniters, spark modules, convection fans, sensors and cooling fans wear first.
Getting Fisher & Paykel parts
We source Fisher & Paykel parts through the maker's North American parts channel and its distributors, matched to the model and serial number. DishDrawer lid seals, filters and pumps, refrigerator fans and sensors, and oven elements and igniters are routinely in stock. Older DCS-derived cooking parts and some electronic modules can have longer lead times, and if only an equivalent part is available, you hear that before it goes in.
Fisher & Paykel: Questions We Hear
Quick answers to what people ask most. If yours isn't here, bring it up on the phone or type it into the notes box when you book.
Something else on your mind?
Reach out with the brand, the symptom and a model number if you have one. Some questions we can answer on the spot; the rest a technician can check in person.
Its headquarters and much of its design work are still in New Zealand, but Haier has owned it since 2012 and manufacturing happens in several countries. For a repair, the detail that matters is the model number, which tells us which platform and parts apply.
Usually. Each drawer is an independent dishwasher with its own pump, heater and electronics, so one can often be repaired while the other stays in use. The two share a water connection, though, so the supply has to be shut off during some repairs.
The common ones aren't. The maker runs its own parts supply in North America, so wear parts for current and recent models are generally available. Discontinued models and some control boards take longer, and you get the expected wait before you approve anything.
Call Fisher & Paykel first. Repairs during the warranty period normally go through the maker's own service arrangements, and an outside repair could complicate that. Once coverage ends, we're glad to take it from there.
