Hoshizaki Repair in Houses, Apartments and Rentals
Hoshizaki, headquartered in Japan, builds commercial ice machines and refrigeration and runs a large American operation. We are independent, not a Hoshizaki service center, so equipment inside its warranty goes back through Hoshizaki's channels first. Past that, we come to the business, diagnose the equipment, explain the fault and quote before any work.
How a Repair Visit Works
Describe the Problem
The brand, the model number if it's handy, and what the appliance is doing. A photo of the rating label is a bonus.
Diagnosis On Site
The technician tests the appliance and its power, water, drain, gas or vent until the failed part is found.
Explanation and Quote
You hear what failed and what the repair costs, then decide. Nothing starts without your OK.
Repair and Test
The part goes in, the appliance runs a cycle, and you see that it works before we leave.

Hoshizaki Products We Service
Crescent cubes and stainless cabinets
Hoshizaki is best known for its KM-series cubers, which make a crescent-shaped cube on a stainless steel evaporator, along with flakers and cubelet machines for soft, chewable ice. The company also builds reach-in refrigerators and freezers, undercounters, prep tables and merchandisers.
Around Pittsburgh those machines sit in bar back rooms, restaurant kitchens, cafés, hotel ice stations and cafeterias. Cubers often end up in a basement or a cramped storeroom, which affects both how well they breathe and how easy they are to reach.
Upkeep problems that pass for failures
Most slow-ice calls turn out to be scale or slime on the evaporator and water system, a dusty air-cooled condenser, or a spent water filter. The machine keeps making ice, just less of it and in odd shapes. Cleaning with the approved cleaner and procedure, changing filters and keeping air moving around the machine prevents a lot of breakdowns.
Refrigeration follows the same pattern. A reach-in in a hot kitchen with a grease-coated condenser runs hard all day, and that shortens compressor life.
Keeping ice on hand during a repair
When an ice machine goes down, bagged ice is the usual stopgap. Tell us your hours when you book, and we'll plan around service when the fault allows. If the machine can be cleaned and restarted on the first visit, that's what happens; if a part is needed, you get the expected wait.
After the visit
We tell you what failed, what caused it and what would stop it happening again, whether that's a cleaning interval, a filter change or better airflow around the machine. It's the information your maintenance log needs.
Hoshizaki, product by product
- Refrigerators: Steelheart reach-ins, undercounters, prep tables and merchandisers. Condenser cleaning, evaporator fans, gaskets, controllers and condensate problems are common.
- Freezers: Reach-in and undercounter freezers. Defrost heaters, drain heaters, evaporator fans, door-frame heaters and control faults cause most failures.
- Ice Makers: KM crescent cubers, flakers and cubelet machines, air-, water- or remote-cooled. Scale, water pumps, float switches, thermistors and flaker gear motors come up most.
Getting Hoshizaki parts
Hoshizaki parts come through the maker's distributor network and commercial parts suppliers, ordered by model and serial number. Water pumps, float switches, thermistors, water valves, bin controls and flaker gear motors are routine. We confirm stock and lead time on site and tell you if an equivalent part is the practical option.
Hoshizaki: Questions We Hear
Quick answers to what people ask most. If yours isn't here, bring it up on the phone or type it into the notes box when you book.
Something else on your mind?
Reach out with the brand, the symptom and a model number if you have one. Some questions we can answer on the spot; the rest a technician can check in person.
Most often scale or slime on the evaporator and water system, a clogged filter or low water supply, with a dirty condenser making it worse. Cleaning and a filter change often fix it. If not, we check the float switch, water pump and thermistor.
Yes. They make ice with an auger turning inside a freezing cylinder, driven by a gear motor, and the bearings, seals and gear motor wear over time. We check those along with the water supply and controls.
Check the purchase paperwork, or contact Hoshizaki with the serial number. Warranty repairs go through the maker's channels. Once coverage ends, we can take the job.
