Bertazzoni Repair in Houses, Apartments and Rentals
Bertazzoni is an Italian cooking brand, and its ranges are built differently from most American ones: every gas burner has a flame-failure safety device, and the ovens are European multifunction designs. We repair them as an independent shop, not as part of Bertazzoni's service network. When your appliance is still under the maker's warranty, call Bertazzoni first. After that, most failures come down to a thermocouple, an igniter, an element, a fan or a sensor, all separate parts, so a sound range is usually worth fixing.
How a Repair Visit Works
Describe the Problem
The brand, the model number if it's handy, and what the appliance is doing. A photo of the rating label is a bonus.
Diagnosis On Site
The technician tests the appliance and its power, water, drain, gas or vent until the failed part is found.
Explanation and Quote
You hear what failed and what the repair costs, then decide. Nothing starts without your OK.
Repair and Test
The part goes in, the appliance runs a cycle, and you see that it works before we leave.

A family company from northern Italy
Bertazzoni began in 1882 in Guastalla, in Emilia-Romagna, and the business is still run by the Bertazzoni family. The company is known mainly for freestanding ranges, sold in North America in several series from compact 24-inch models up to wide ranges with two ovens, in gas, dual-fuel, electric and induction versions.
The brand later added wall ovens, cooktops, hoods, refrigerators and dishwashers so a buyer could fit out a whole kitchen in one look. Those non-cooking products are engineered to go with the ranges, but their internals are closer to other European built-ins than to Bertazzoni's own cooking equipment.
Where they show up in Pittsburgh kitchens
Bertazzoni ranges tend to appear in kitchen renovations where the owner wanted serious gas cooking and a color other than stainless: rehabbed rowhouses in Lawrenceville and the Mexican War Streets, remodeled foursquares in Highland Park and Point Breeze, and larger homes in Fox Chapel and Upper St. Clair. The narrower models also suit the tight kitchens in older city houses.
In an older house the gas and electric service behind the range matters. A dual-fuel model needs both a gas supply and a 240-volt circuit, and we sometimes find a remodel that reused an old gas cock or a tired flex connector. We point that out when we see it.
What makes an Italian range different to repair
Each Bertazzoni gas burner has a thermocouple beside the flame. While it is hot, it holds the burner's safety valve open; if the flame goes out, the valve closes. That's why you hold the knob in for a few seconds when lighting. When a burner lights but dies the moment you let go, the thermocouple or its valve magnet is the usual suspect, not the gas supply.
The ovens are multifunction European designs: several elements, a convection fan with a ring element on many models, and a selector switch that decides which ones run. When one mode works and another doesn't, the selector and the element for that mode are checked before anything else.
Parts and wait times
Common wear parts such as igniters, thermocouples, knobs, elements and gaskets are usually available through Bertazzoni's North American parts channel. Less common items, like a specific oven door glass or a colored trim piece, can take longer to arrive. We confirm the part from the serial number and tell you the expected wait before ordering.
Bertazzoni, product by product
- Refrigerators: Built-in column refrigerators and freezers and freestanding French-door models sold to match the ranges. Repairs cover temperature sensors, fans, ice makers, door gaskets and defrost faults.
- Dishwashers: 24-inch dishwashers in stainless and panel-ready versions. We fix drain and circulation pump faults, inlet valves, door hinges and leaks caught by the base float.
- Ovens: Single and double wall ovens and the ovens inside Bertazzoni ranges. Typical repairs: convection fan motors, bake and broil elements, temperature sensors, selector switches and door hinges.
- Cooktops: Gas cooktops with dual-ring power burners and flame-failure valves, plus induction cooktops. Common calls: burners that won't stay lit, sparking, weak simmer and induction faults.
- Stoves: A Bertazzoni stove as it gets used day to day: burners that go out when the knob is released, igniters clicking, and an oven that won't reach temperature.
- Ranges: Gas, dual-fuel, electric and induction ranges from 24 to 48 inches, single or double oven. Repairs include thermocouples, igniters, oven elements, convection fans and gas oven valves.
Getting Bertazzoni parts
Bertazzoni supplies parts to North American technicians through its own distribution. Thermocouples, igniters, burner caps, knobs, oven elements and fan motors for current series are usually easy to get. Oven glass, colored enamel or trim pieces and parts for discontinued series can take longer, since some have to come from Italy. We read the serial label while diagnosing, confirm the exact part, and tell you when an equivalent part is being used.

Something else on your mind?
Reach out with the brand, the symptom and a model number if you have one. Some questions we can answer on the spot; the rest a technician can check in person.
Each burner has a flame-failure device. The thermocouple needs a few seconds of flame to heat up and keep the safety valve open. Hold the knob pressed for about the time the manual says after the burner lights. If it still goes out when you let go, the thermocouple or valve needs testing.
Yes. The color is only the enamel and trim, and the burners, valves and oven parts are the same as on stainless models. Colored replacement parts such as doors or side panels can take longer to source, and we tell you before ordering.
Usually, if the oven cavity and burner box are sound. Most failures are single parts. The cases where we advise against it are rust-through, cracked enamel in the oven, or a discontinued series where a key part is gone for good.
