Hotpoint Repair in Houses, Apartments and Rentals

On this side of the Atlantic, Hotpoint is one of GE Appliances' brands, and so ultimately Haier's. We are independent and not a GE Appliances service provider, so a Hotpoint still inside its warranty goes back to GE Appliances first. After that, we come to you, find what failed, and tell you plainly whether the repair is worth its price.

Basement laundry
In older houses the washer and dryer are often downstairs, past narrow steps and low beams, draining to a laundry tub or floor drain. Tell us how to get down there.
Rowhouses & older homes
New appliances often sit on old wiring, gas lines and vents. We check what feeds the machine as well as the machine.
Hillsides & parking
Steps up to the front door, permit-only blocks, alley entrances. A note about access when you book gets the visit started sooner.
Rentals & landlords
Tenants can book. The owner or manager gets the diagnosis and the price, and approves before any work.
Cold garages & porches
A spare fridge or freezer in an unheated space may stop holding temperature in winter without anything having failed. Check the manual's temperature range first.
Honest advice
If an older machine isn't worth the repair, we'll tell you so, and explain what actually broke.

How a Repair Visit Works

01

Describe the Problem

The brand, the model number if it's handy, and what the appliance is doing. A photo of the rating label is a bonus.

02

Diagnosis On Site

The technician tests the appliance and its power, water, drain, gas or vent until the failed part is found.

03

Explanation and Quote

You hear what failed and what the repair costs, then decide. Nothing starts without your OK.

04

Repair and Test

The part goes in, the appliance runs a cycle, and you see that it works before we leave.

Hotpoint

Basic machines, simple repairs

Hotpoint sells the simplest end of the GE Appliances range: top-freezer refrigerators, coil and smooth-top electric stoves, gas stoves with knobs, top-load washers, dryers, basic dishwashers and microwaves. Fewer features mean fewer parts, and a fault usually traces to one component.

That makes Hotpoint a familiar sight in rentals, first homes and apartments around the city, from student houses in Oakland to duplexes in Bloomfield and Carrick. Landlords buy it for the low price and the controls tenants can't get wrong.

Working on the GE family platform

Hotpoint models share their engineering, and a lot of parts, with GE-badged appliances of the same era. That keeps parts easy to find and makes known GE weak spots a useful guide. Hotpoint appliances sold in Europe come from an unrelated company, so European parts and manuals don't apply.

In older Pittsburgh houses, a Hotpoint washer and dryer often sit in the basement at the bottom of narrow stairs. We plan for that access, and for older drain setups like laundry tubs and floor drains that can cause problems having nothing to do with the machine.

When a Hotpoint is worth fixing

A new Hotpoint is affordable, so a repair has to make sense next to that. Igniters, belts, pumps, switches, thermostats, elements, gaskets and defrost parts almost always do. A sealed-system refrigerator repair, a washer transmission or several failures on an older unit usually don't.

You hear which side of that line the fault falls on before any part is ordered. For rentals, we can send the diagnosis and price to the owner or manager before work starts.

Hotpoint, product by product

  • Refrigerators: Top-freezer refrigerators, many without ice makers. Defrost faults, evaporator and condenser fans, start relays and door gaskets are the usual repairs.
  • Washers: Top-load washers on GE platforms with simple controls. Lid locks, drain pumps, shifters, suspension rods and inlet valves are common repairs.
  • Dryers: Electric and gas dryers with basic timers. Thermal fuses, elements, gas igniters, belts, drum rollers and idler pulleys wear most.
  • Dishwashers: Basic built-in dishwashers, often in rentals. Drain pumps, inlet valves, door latches, heating elements and controls fail most.
  • Ovens: Almost always the oven section of a Hotpoint range or stove. Bake elements, igniters, sensors, thermostats and door hinges come up most.
  • Microwaves: Over-the-range and countertop microwaves. Door switches, fuses, magnetrons, diodes and vent fans fail most.
  • Freezers: Chest and upright freezers, often in basements or garages. Thermostats, gaskets, start relays, dusty condensers and defrost parts on frost-free uprights cause most problems.
  • Cooktops: Hotpoint built-in cooktops are uncommon. When one turns up, coil or radiant elements, receptacles and infinite switches are the usual parts.
  • Stoves: Freestanding electric coil and gas stoves with knobs. Coil elements, receptacles, infinite switches, oven igniters and bake elements cover most repairs.
  • Ranges: Standard freestanding ranges, including smooth-top electric. Radiant elements, surface switches, oven sensors and simple clock controls fail most.

Getting Hotpoint parts

Hotpoint parts come from GE Appliances' parts channel and the distributors that stock GE components, and many are shared outright with GE models. Most wear parts are easy to get, even for older units. European Hotpoint parts sold online don't fit American machines, so we match every part to the model and serial number before ordering.

FAQ

Hotpoint: Questions We Hear

Quick answers to what people ask most. If yours isn't here, bring it up on the phone or type it into the notes box when you book.

Something else on your mind?

Reach out with the brand, the symptom and a model number if you have one. Some questions we can answer on the spot; the rest a technician can check in person.

In the US, Hotpoint is one of the GE Appliances brands, and GE Appliances is owned by Haier. The machines use GE engineering and a long list of common parts. The Hotpoint brand sold in Europe belongs to a different company.

When the fault is a single part like an igniter, belt, pump, thermostat, switch or gasket, fixing it usually beats paying for a new unit plus delivery and hookup. For a sealed-system leak or a washer transmission, replacement is often wiser, and we'll tell you.

Yes. We coordinate access with tenants, diagnose the appliance and send you the quote before starting. The fault and the part are described plainly so you can weigh repair against replacement.
