Insignia Repair in Houses, Apartments and Rentals
Insignia is Best Buy's own brand, and its appliances are built by contract manufacturers. We have no connection to Best Buy. If you bought a protection plan with the appliance, or it's still inside its warranty, contact Best Buy or the plan provider first. After that, we diagnose it at your home and quote before any work.
How a Repair Visit Works
Describe the Problem
The brand, the model number if it's handy, and what the appliance is doing. A photo of the rating label is a bonus.
Diagnosis On Site
The technician tests the appliance and its power, water, drain, gas or vent until the failed part is found.
Explanation and Quote
You hear what failed and what the repair costs, then decide. Nothing starts without your OK.
Repair and Test
The part goes in, the appliance runs a cycle, and you see that it works before we leave.

Insignia Products We Service
Who actually builds an Insignia
Best Buy doesn't run appliance factories. It contracts outside manufacturers to build Insignia products, and the maker can change from one model or year to the next, so two Insignia refrigerators that look alike can be quite different inside.
The practical upshot is that the model number, not the badge, tells us what's inside. With it we can find the right parts where they exist, and give you an honest answer where they don't.
Where Insignia turns up around Pittsburgh
Insignia compact refrigerators and freezers are common in student apartments near the universities, finished basements, home offices and garages. Chest freezers get bought for extra storage downstairs, and beverage coolers end up under a home bar or in a rec room.
A basement or garage freezer may be running outside the room temperatures its manual allows. In winter, a cold garage can keep some freezers from running properly, so check the manual before assuming the unit has failed.
Parts by model number
Parts for Insignia appliances are more limited than for the big brands. Door gaskets, thermostats, fans and some control parts can often be found, while sealed-system parts and some electronics are hard to get. We check availability during the diagnosis.
With a compact unit, the repair also has to make sense against the price of a new one, and we tell you plainly when it doesn't.
Insignia, product by product
- Refrigerators: Compact, top-freezer and some full-size refrigerators. Thermostats, fans, defrost parts, door gaskets and start relays are the usual repairs.
- Microwaves: Mostly countertop microwaves. Door switches, fuses, magnetrons, turntable motors and touchpads fail most.
- Freezers: Chest and upright freezers, many in basements and garages. Thermostats, lid seals, start relays and defrost parts on frost-free uprights fail most.
- Wine Coolers: Thermoelectric and compressor wine and beverage coolers. Cooling modules, fans, thermostats, door seals and control boards fail most.
Getting Insignia parts
Insignia parts come from suppliers that list Insignia NS- model numbers, and sometimes from the original manufacturer's parts under a different number. Availability is uneven. Gaskets, thermostats and fans are the likeliest finds, while sealed-system and electronic parts may not be available at all. We check before recommending a repair and tell you if an equivalent part is the only option.
Insignia: Questions We Hear
Quick answers to what people ask most. If yours isn't here, bring it up on the phone or type it into the notes box when you book.
Something else on your mind?
Reach out with the brand, the symptom and a model number if you have one. Some questions we can answer on the spot; the rest a technician can check in person.
Contract manufacturers chosen by Best Buy, and the maker varies by model and year. The model number, which starts with NS- on Insignia products, tells us which parts apply.
Sometimes. A thermostat, fan, gasket or relay repair usually makes sense. A sealed-system leak on a compact unit usually doesn't. Parts availability counts too, since some Insignia parts are hard to find.
Call Best Buy first. Repairs under a protection plan go through their process. Once the plan has expired, we can help.
