How Samsung builds its freezers
The freezer section on a Samsung refrigerator runs its own evaporator and fan, and it is also the source of cold air for the ice room on French-door models. A freezer that runs warm with a quiet fan often has a coil wrapped in ice after a defrost heater, defrost sensor or fuse failed. Water that won't drain during defrost refreezes in the bottom of the compartment and can climb into the fan. Convertible middle drawers on four-door models have their own sensor and damper, and a stuck damper keeps that drawer from reaching its set point. A freezer in an unheated garage adds another variable, since some refrigerators do not run properly when the room gets too cold.

Usually the defrost drain has frozen, so meltwater stays in the compartment and freezes. That can come from a failed drain heater, a defrost fault or warm air getting in. We thaw and clear the drain and fix the cause so it stays open.
Check the owner's manual for the room temperature range your model is designed for. Many refrigerators aren't built for an unheated garage: when it's cold, the thermostat sees little need to run, and the freezer section can warm up.
