Whirlpool Freezer Repair in Houses, Apartments and Rentals

We have no affiliation with Whirlpool and are not one of its service centers. A freezer still covered by the Whirlpool warranty belongs with Whirlpool first. Once it's out of coverage, give us the model number and the symptom when you book so we can look into parts ahead of time.

Basement laundry
In older houses the washer and dryer are often downstairs, past narrow steps and low beams, draining to a laundry tub or floor drain. Tell us how to get down there.
Rowhouses & older homes
New appliances often sit on old wiring, gas lines and vents. We check what feeds the machine as well as the machine.
Hillsides & parking
Steps up to the front door, permit-only blocks, alley entrances. A note about access when you book gets the visit started sooner.
Rentals & landlords
Tenants can book. The owner or manager gets the diagnosis and the price, and approves before any work.
Cold garages & porches
A spare fridge or freezer in an unheated space may stop holding temperature in winter without anything having failed. Check the manual's temperature range first.
Honest advice
If an older machine isn't worth the repair, we'll tell you so, and explain what actually broke.

How a Freezer Repair Visit Works

01

Describe the Problem

The brand, the model number if it's handy, and what the appliance is doing. A photo of the rating label is a bonus.

02

Diagnosis On Site

The technician tests the appliance and its power, water, drain, gas or vent until the failed part is found.

03

Explanation and Quote

You hear what failed and what the repair costs, then decide. Nothing starts without your OK.

04

Repair and Test

The part goes in, the appliance runs a cycle, and you see that it works before we leave.

How Whirlpool builds its freezers

Whirlpool freezers come in two forms: upright and chest units, and the freezer sections of its refrigerators. Chest freezers have no fan and no automatic defrost on most models, so their failures are usually a start relay, a thermostat or, less often, the sealed system. Uprights and refrigerator freezers use an evaporator fan and a defrost system; when the defrost heater or thermostat fails, frost clogs the coil and the freezer warms. Frost-free uprights in a basement or garage work harder when the room gets humid in summer. A freezer in an unheated garage in winter can have trouble too, so check the manual's ambient temperature range.

Parts that tend to fail on Whirlpool freezers

  • Defrost heater or thermostat failed
  • Evaporator fan motor stopped
  • Compressor start relay failed
  • Door gasket not sealing
  • Thermostat or control not calling for cold

Whirlpool Freezer: Questions We Hear

Quick answers to what people ask most. If yours isn't here, bring it up on the phone or type it into the notes box when you book.

Something else on your mind?

Reach out with the brand, the symptom and a model number if you have one. Some questions we can answer on the spot; the rest a technician can check in person.

Possibly, but first check the start relay and the thermostat, which fail more often. If the compressor starts and the freezer still won't cool, a sealed-system leak may be the cause, and we'll discuss whether the repair makes sense.

A door that isn't sealing well lets in moist air that turns to frost. A defrost system failure causes frost to build on the coil. We check both.
