Amana Freezer Repair in Houses, Apartments and Rentals

We have no affiliation with Amana and are not one of its service centers. A freezer still covered by the Amana warranty belongs with Amana first. Once it's out of coverage, give us the model number and the symptom when you book so we can look into parts ahead of time.

Basement laundry
In older houses the washer and dryer are often downstairs, past narrow steps and low beams, draining to a laundry tub or floor drain. Tell us how to get down there.
Rowhouses & older homes
New appliances often sit on old wiring, gas lines and vents. We check what feeds the machine as well as the machine.
Hillsides & parking
Steps up to the front door, permit-only blocks, alley entrances. A note about access when you book gets the visit started sooner.
Rentals & landlords
Tenants can book. The owner or manager gets the diagnosis and the price, and approves before any work.
Cold garages & porches
A spare fridge or freezer in an unheated space may stop holding temperature in winter without anything having failed. Check the manual's temperature range first.
Honest advice
If an older machine isn't worth the repair, we'll tell you so, and explain what actually broke.

How a Freezer Repair Visit Works

01

Describe the Problem

The brand, the model number if it's handy, and what the appliance is doing. A photo of the rating label is a bonus.

02

Diagnosis On Site

The technician tests the appliance and its power, water, drain, gas or vent until the failed part is found.

03

Explanation and Quote

You hear what failed and what the repair costs, then decide. Nothing starts without your OK.

04

Repair and Test

The part goes in, the appliance runs a cycle, and you see that it works before we leave.

What's inside an Amana freezer

Amana freezers include the freezer compartments of Whirlpool-built refrigerators and some standalone units. In a refrigerator, the freezer houses the evaporator, fan and defrost heater, so a defrost failure shows up as frost on the back panel and a warm refrigerator. Standalone chest freezers are simpler: a compressor, condenser, thermostat and gasket. A start relay that fails can keep the compressor from running. Freezers in unheated garages or basements can behave poorly in winter, since many are not designed for cold rooms. Check the manual for the allowed room temperature range. A chest freezer in a damp basement can also rust along the bottom edge and the lid hinges, and a lid that no longer closes squarely lets in humid air that turns into thick frost.

Parts that tend to fail on Amana freezers

  • Start relay failing
  • Defrost heater open
  • Thermostat not calling for cooling
  • Gasket not sealing
  • Evaporator fan stopped

The general freezer repair guide covers faults that turn up on every make.

FAQ

Amana Freezer: Questions We Hear

Quick answers to what people ask most. If yours isn't here, bring it up on the phone or type it into the notes box when you book.

Something else on your mind?

Reach out with the brand, the symptom and a model number if you have one. Some questions we can answer on the spot; the rest a technician can check in person.

That usually points to a defrost fault: a heater, a defrost thermostat or a control. A door gasket that does not seal can also add moisture. We test the defrost system and check the seal.

If it is a relay, thermostat, gasket or defrost part, usually yes. A failed compressor or a refrigerant leak on an older freezer usually points toward replacing it.
