Avanti Freezer Repair in Houses, Apartments and Rentals

We have no affiliation with Avanti and are not one of its service centers. A freezer still covered by the Avanti warranty belongs with Avanti first. Once it's out of coverage, give us the model number and the symptom when you book so we can look into parts ahead of time.

Basement laundry
In older houses the washer and dryer are often downstairs, past narrow steps and low beams, draining to a laundry tub or floor drain. Tell us how to get down there.
Rowhouses & older homes
New appliances often sit on old wiring, gas lines and vents. We check what feeds the machine as well as the machine.
Hillsides & parking
Steps up to the front door, permit-only blocks, alley entrances. A note about access when you book gets the visit started sooner.
Rentals & landlords
Tenants can book. The owner or manager gets the diagnosis and the price, and approves before any work.
Cold garages & porches
A spare fridge or freezer in an unheated space may stop holding temperature in winter without anything having failed. Check the manual's temperature range first.
Honest advice
If an older machine isn't worth the repair, we'll tell you so, and explain what actually broke.

How a Freezer Repair Visit Works

01

Describe the Problem

The brand, the model number if it's handy, and what the appliance is doing. A photo of the rating label is a bonus.

02

Diagnosis On Site

The technician tests the appliance and its power, water, drain, gas or vent until the failed part is found.

03

Explanation and Quote

You hear what failed and what the repair costs, then decide. Nothing starts without your OK.

04

Repair and Test

The part goes in, the appliance runs a cycle, and you see that it works before we leave.

What's inside an Avanti freezer

Avanti freezers are mostly chest models and small uprights that go where the kitchen fridge can't hold everything: basements, laundry rooms, garages and enclosed porches. Chest freezers are manual defrost and use a thermostat to switch the compressor, so the failures are few and familiar: a thermostat that sticks, a start relay or overload that clicks without starting the compressor, and a lid gasket that stops sealing after years of ice around it. An upright model may add a fan and defrost parts. Location matters a lot here. A freezer in an unheated space may not run properly when the room gets very cold, and the manual lists the temperature range it is built for.

Parts that tend to fail on Avanti freezers

  • Compressor clicking but not starting
  • Thermostat failing to cycle
  • Lid gasket letting in air
  • Heavy ice on inner walls
  • Upright fan motor not running

FAQ

Avanti Freezer: Questions We Hear

Quick answers to what people ask most. If yours isn't here, bring it up on the phone or type it into the notes box when you book.

Something else on your mind?

Reach out with the brand, the symptom and a model number if you have one. Some questions we can answer on the spot; the rest a technician can check in person.

Many freezers are rated for a minimum room temperature. When the space gets colder than that, the thermostat senses cold air and stops calling for the compressor, so the inside can warm up. Check the rated range in your manual; if it is within range and still thawing, we test the thermostat and compressor starting parts.

A click every few minutes with no hum usually means the compressor is trying to start and the overload is cutting it out. The start relay or overload is often at fault and is an inexpensive part. If they test fine, the compressor itself may be failing.
