Thermador Freezer Repair in Houses, Apartments and Rentals

We have no affiliation with Thermador and are not one of its service centers. A freezer still covered by the Thermador warranty belongs with Thermador first. Once it's out of coverage, give us the model number and the symptom when you book so we can look into parts ahead of time.

Basement laundry
In older houses the washer and dryer are often downstairs, past narrow steps and low beams, draining to a laundry tub or floor drain. Tell us how to get down there.
Rowhouses & older homes
New appliances often sit on old wiring, gas lines and vents. We check what feeds the machine as well as the machine.
Hillsides & parking
Steps up to the front door, permit-only blocks, alley entrances. A note about access when you book gets the visit started sooner.
Rentals & landlords
Tenants can book. The owner or manager gets the diagnosis and the price, and approves before any work.
Cold garages & porches
A spare fridge or freezer in an unheated space may stop holding temperature in winter without anything having failed. Check the manual's temperature range first.
Honest advice
If an older machine isn't worth the repair, we'll tell you so, and explain what actually broke.

How a Freezer Repair Visit Works

01

Describe the Problem

The brand, the model number if it's handy, and what the appliance is doing. A photo of the rating label is a bonus.

02

Diagnosis On Site

The technician tests the appliance and its power, water, drain, gas or vent until the failed part is found.

03

Explanation and Quote

You hear what failed and what the repair costs, then decide. Nothing starts without your OK.

04

Repair and Test

The part goes in, the appliance runs a cycle, and you see that it works before we leave.

How Thermador builds its freezers

Thermador freezer columns and the freezer drawers on built-in refrigerators both rely on an automatic defrost system: a heater on the evaporator coil, a sensor and a control that times the cycle. When any part of that chain fails, frost builds up on the coil, air stops moving and the freezer warms even though the compressor runs. Door and drawer gaskets matter a great deal; a gasket with a gap pulls in damp room air and the frost returns within days. Column ice makers bring a water valve and a fill tube that is prone to freezing. Where the frost sits on the coil tells us a lot about which part quit.

Parts that tend to fail on Thermador freezers

  • Defrost heater open circuit
  • Frost from a leaking gasket
  • Evaporator fan noisy or stopped
  • Ice maker fill tube frozen
  • Drawer slides not closing fully

FAQ

Thermador Freezer: Questions We Hear

Quick answers to what people ask most. If yours isn't here, bring it up on the phone or type it into the notes box when you book.

Something else on your mind?

Reach out with the brand, the symptom and a model number if you have one. Some questions we can answer on the spot; the rest a technician can check in person.

Either warm air is getting in through a door seal that isn't closing, or the defrost system has stopped working. Seal trouble usually frosts the area nearest the door; a defrost failure shows up as an iced-over coil behind the rear panel.

Often it's the evaporator fan instead, especially if the noise changes when the door opens. Ice building up around the fan blade is common when defrost is failing. We identify the source before replacing anything.
