Avanti Repair in Houses, Apartments and Rentals
Avanti builds appliances for rooms that can't fit a full-size one: efficiency apartments, finished basements, office break areas, in-law suites and the second kitchen in a split-up house. The brand belongs to The Legacy Companies, and we have no tie to it or its service program. If your unit is inside the maker's warranty, contact Avanti first. After that, we look at it honestly. A lot of Avanti faults are a thermostat, a fan, a door switch or an igniter, which are fair repairs; a failed sealed system on a small fridge usually is not, and we will tell you so.
How a Repair Visit Works
Describe the Problem
The brand, the model number if it's handy, and what the appliance is doing. A photo of the rating label is a bonus.
Diagnosis On Site
The technician tests the appliance and its power, water, drain, gas or vent until the failed part is found.
Explanation and Quote
You hear what failed and what the repair costs, then decide. Nothing starts without your OK.
Repair and Test
The part goes in, the appliance runs a cycle, and you see that it works before we leave.

Who is behind the Avanti name
Avanti Products has sold compact refrigerators, freezers, cooking and laundry equipment for decades, and today it is part of The Legacy Companies, a group that also owns several commercial and residential appliance labels. Like most compact brands, Avanti designs and specifies its models and has them built by outside factories, so two units that look alike can use different compressors, thermostats or boards depending on the production run.
That is why we start every Avanti repair by reading the full model and serial label. Guessing from the outside of the cabinet is how the wrong part gets ordered.
Where Avanti units end up around Pittsburgh
Compact appliances fill a real need in this housing stock. Old houses in Oakland, Bloomfield and the South Side that were divided into apartments often have kitchens too narrow for a 30-inch range, and a 20- or 24-inch Avanti range fits the gap. Student rentals get small fridges and portable washers. Finished basements across the South Hills and North Hills get a bar fridge or a wine cooler under a counter.
Some of those locations are hard on small refrigeration. A bar fridge in an unheated porch or a cold basement corner can stop cycling properly in January, and one tucked into a cabinet with no breathing room runs hot all summer. Before blaming a part, we check where the unit sits and what the owner's manual says about clearances and room temperature.
Deciding whether a small unit is worth fixing
A compact fridge or a portable washer has a low replacement cost, so the arithmetic is different from a built-in range. We quote what the repair will take and say plainly when buying a new unit is the better use of your money. Mechanical parts like thermostats, door gaskets, fans and igniters usually pass that test. A leaking evaporator or a dead compressor on a small refrigerator usually does not.
Apartment ranges and 24-inch refrigerators are closer calls, because finding a replacement that fits an odd opening can be harder than it looks. In those cases a repair often wins even when the unit is older.
Avanti, product by product
- Refrigerators: Compact and dorm fridges, under-counter beverage units and 24-inch apartment refrigerators, many with manual defrost. Common repairs: thermostats, door gaskets, fans and start relays.
- Washers: Portable top-load washers that hook to a sink faucet and compact front-loaders sized for closets. Repairs cover drain pumps, lid switches, inlet valves and drive belts.
- Dryers: Compact front-load dryers that stack with the matching washer. Typical calls: no heat, a squealing drum, blocked vents and door switch faults.
- Ovens: The oven side of Avanti's apartment ranges and its small wall ovens. We see igniter and bake element failures, bad thermostats and door hinges that no longer seal.
- Microwaves: Countertop and compact microwaves for small kitchens, dorm rooms and offices. Calls are about no heat, a dead unit after a blown fuse, sparking and stalled turntables.
- Freezers: Chest and small upright freezers for basements, garages and apartments. Most calls involve temperature control, frost buildup, lid seals and compressor starting parts.
- Cooktops: Compact gas and electric cooktops, including two- and four-burner units for small kitchens. Burner ignition, coil or radiant element failures and infinite switches are the usual work.
- Wine Coolers: Freestanding and under-counter wine and beverage coolers, both compressor and thermoelectric. Warm cabinets, noisy fans, failed control boards and fogged glass are typical.
- Stoves: Avanti apartment stoves as renters and landlords use them: a burner that won't light, an oven slow to heat, or knobs and switches worn from heavy turnover.
- Ranges: 20- and 24-inch gas and electric ranges for tight kitchens. Repairs include oven igniters, burner valves, bake and broil elements, and oven thermostats.
Getting Avanti parts
Avanti sells replacement parts through its own parts department, and common items such as thermostats, gaskets, shelves, knobs and elements are listed for many current models. Because production runs change suppliers, the part has to match the exact model and serial number, and some older or short-run models have parts that are simply no longer made. We confirm availability before quoting, say when we are using an equivalent part, and tell you if the part can't be found.

Something else on your mind?
Reach out with the brand, the symptom and a model number if you have one. Some questions we can answer on the spot; the rest a technician can check in person.
It depends on what failed. A thermostat, a door gasket, a fan or a start relay is a reasonable repair on most units. A refrigerant leak or a failed compressor on a small fridge usually costs more than the unit is worth, and we will say that before you spend anything.
Yes. Apartment ranges get heavy use and frequent tenant changes, so we see worn knobs, weak igniters and failed elements often. We can deal with the tenant for access, but the owner or manager approves the quote before the work starts.
On refrigerators and wine coolers it is usually on a label inside the cabinet, on a side wall or near the top. Ranges tend to have it inside the storage drawer or on the oven frame behind the door. Laundry units carry it on the back or inside the door. A photo of that label helps us bring the right part.
