KitchenAid Refrigerator Repair in Houses, Apartments and Rentals
We have no affiliation with KitchenAid and are not one of its service centers. A refrigerator still covered by the KitchenAid warranty belongs with KitchenAid first. Once it's out of coverage, give us the model number and the symptom when you book so we can look into parts ahead of time.
How a Refrigerator Repair Visit Works
Describe the Problem
The brand, the model number if it's handy, and what the appliance is doing. A photo of the rating label is a bonus.
Diagnosis On Site
The technician tests the appliance and its power, water, drain, gas or vent until the failed part is found.
Explanation and Quote
You hear what failed and what the repair costs, then decide. Nothing starts without your OK.
Repair and Test
The part goes in, the appliance runs a cycle, and you see that it works before we leave.
How KitchenAid builds its refrigerators
KitchenAid refrigerators split into two families. Freestanding French-door and side-by-side models use Whirlpool's platforms, so their ice makers, water valves, fans and defrost parts are familiar and well stocked. Built-in models are framed into cabinetry with the compressor and condenser in a compartment above the doors, behind a grille. There, dust on the condenser and a failing condenser fan warm the cabinet, and access is from the top rather than the back. On both types, a failed defrost heater or thermostat ices over the evaporator. Some models have dual evaporators or special crispers, which change the diagnosis.
Parts that tend to fail on KitchenAid refrigerators
- Ice maker stopped making ice
- Top condenser fan failed on a built-in
- Evaporator iced from a defrost failure
- Water inlet valve leaking
- Door gasket split on the hinge side

KitchenAid Refrigerator: Questions We Hear
Quick answers to what people ask most. If yours isn't here, bring it up on the phone or type it into the notes box when you book.
Something else on your mind?
Reach out with the brand, the symptom and a model number if you have one. Some questions we can answer on the spot; the rest a technician can check in person.
The machine compartment on top may be choked with dust or have a failed condenser fan. We clean the condenser, test the fan and check the compressor and controls before anything else.
Usually not. The top grille gives access to the compressor, condenser and fan, and nearly everything else is serviced through the doors. Pulling the unit is seldom necessary.
