Avanti Refrigerator Repair in Houses, Apartments and Rentals

We have no affiliation with Avanti and are not one of its service centers. A refrigerator still covered by the Avanti warranty belongs with Avanti first. Once it's out of coverage, give us the model number and the symptom when you book so we can look into parts ahead of time.

Basement laundry
In older houses the washer and dryer are often downstairs, past narrow steps and low beams, draining to a laundry tub or floor drain. Tell us how to get down there.
Rowhouses & older homes
New appliances often sit on old wiring, gas lines and vents. We check what feeds the machine as well as the machine.
Hillsides & parking
Steps up to the front door, permit-only blocks, alley entrances. A note about access when you book gets the visit started sooner.
Rentals & landlords
Tenants can book. The owner or manager gets the diagnosis and the price, and approves before any work.
Cold garages & porches
A spare fridge or freezer in an unheated space may stop holding temperature in winter without anything having failed. Check the manual's temperature range first.
Honest advice
If an older machine isn't worth the repair, we'll tell you so, and explain what actually broke.

How a Refrigerator Repair Visit Works

01

Describe the Problem

The brand, the model number if it's handy, and what the appliance is doing. A photo of the rating label is a bonus.

02

Diagnosis On Site

The technician tests the appliance and its power, water, drain, gas or vent until the failed part is found.

03

Explanation and Quote

You hear what failed and what the repair costs, then decide. Nothing starts without your OK.

04

Repair and Test

The part goes in, the appliance runs a cycle, and you see that it works before we leave.

What's inside an Avanti refrigerator

Many Avanti refrigerators are simple machines: a compressor, a static or fan-cooled evaporator, and a mechanical thermostat with a dial. Several of the small models defrost manually, so a thick layer of ice on the freezer compartment is normal wear, not a fault, until it blocks the airflow or the door. The parts that fail most are the thermostat, which stops cutting in or out, the start relay and overload on the compressor, and the door gasket, which tears or flattens. Apartment-size 24-inch models add a condenser fan and sometimes a defrost heater and timer. Units squeezed into cabinets with no side or rear gap overheat the condenser and run constantly.

Parts that tend to fail on Avanti refrigerators

  • Thermostat stuck on or off
  • Compressor start relay failed
  • Door gasket torn or flattened
  • Condenser fan motor stopped
  • Frost buildup blocking airflow

FAQ

Avanti Refrigerator: Questions We Hear

Quick answers to what people ask most. If yours isn't here, bring it up on the phone or type it into the notes box when you book.

Something else on your mind?

Reach out with the brand, the symptom and a model number if you have one. Some questions we can answer on the spot; the rest a technician can check in person.

On a dial-controlled unit, the usual cause is a thermostat that no longer opens its contacts, so the compressor never stops. A dial set too cold or a sensing tube knocked out of place can do the same. We check the setting and the tube position, then test the thermostat itself.

Many compact Avanti models are manual defrost, and the manual says so. When the frost gets about as thick as a coin, unplug the unit, empty it and let it melt with the door open. If a model that should defrost itself keeps icing up, the defrost heater, timer or thermostat is suspect.
