Whirlpool Refrigerator Repair in Houses, Apartments and Rentals

We have no affiliation with Whirlpool and are not one of its service centers. A refrigerator still covered by the Whirlpool warranty belongs with Whirlpool first. Once it's out of coverage, give us the model number and the symptom when you book so we can look into parts ahead of time.

Basement laundry
In older houses the washer and dryer are often downstairs, past narrow steps and low beams, draining to a laundry tub or floor drain. Tell us how to get down there.
Rowhouses & older homes
New appliances often sit on old wiring, gas lines and vents. We check what feeds the machine as well as the machine.
Hillsides & parking
Steps up to the front door, permit-only blocks, alley entrances. A note about access when you book gets the visit started sooner.
Rentals & landlords
Tenants can book. The owner or manager gets the diagnosis and the price, and approves before any work.
Cold garages & porches
A spare fridge or freezer in an unheated space may stop holding temperature in winter without anything having failed. Check the manual's temperature range first.
Honest advice
If an older machine isn't worth the repair, we'll tell you so, and explain what actually broke.

How a Refrigerator Repair Visit Works

01

Describe the Problem

The brand, the model number if it's handy, and what the appliance is doing. A photo of the rating label is a bonus.

02

Diagnosis On Site

The technician tests the appliance and its power, water, drain, gas or vent until the failed part is found.

03

Explanation and Quote

You hear what failed and what the repair costs, then decide. Nothing starts without your OK.

04

Repair and Test

The part goes in, the appliance runs a cycle, and you see that it works before we leave.

How Whirlpool builds its refrigerators

Whirlpool refrigerators cover almost every layout, and the common faults depend on which one you have. Top-freezer and side-by-side models often come down to a defrost failure: the heater, the defrost thermostat or the timer or board that controls them. When the evaporator ices over, the freezer stays cold but the fresh-food side warms up. French-door models add an ice maker in the fresh-food compartment on some models, with a separate fan and duct, and water dispensers that depend on a water valve and a filter housing. Condenser fans on the back of many models collect dust and pet hair. A garage fridge that stops cooling in winter may simply be too cold to run, not broken.

Parts that tend to fail on Whirlpool refrigerators

  • Defrost heater or thermostat failed
  • Ice maker not cycling
  • Water inlet valve leaking
  • Condenser fan motor stopped
  • Door gasket torn or warped

Whirlpool Refrigerator: Questions We Hear

Quick answers to what people ask most. If yours isn't here, bring it up on the phone or type it into the notes box when you book.

Something else on your mind?

Reach out with the brand, the symptom and a model number if you have one. Some questions we can answer on the spot; the rest a technician can check in person.

Usually the defrost system. When the evaporator ices over, air can't move from the freezer to the fresh-food side. The heater, the defrost thermostat or the control is tested next. A failed evaporator fan causes the same symptom.

Maybe not. Many refrigerators are designed for a heated room and run poorly when the surroundings get cold. The owner's manual lists the ambient range your model is built for. If it still won't cool indoors, we'll diagnose it.
