Maytag Cooktop Repair in Houses, Apartments and Rentals
We have no affiliation with Maytag and are not one of its service centers. A cooktop still covered by the Maytag warranty belongs with Maytag first. Once it's out of coverage, give us the model number and the symptom when you book so we can look into parts ahead of time.
How a Cooktop Repair Visit Works
Describe the Problem
The brand, the model number if it's handy, and what the appliance is doing. A photo of the rating label is a bonus.
Diagnosis On Site
The technician tests the appliance and its power, water, drain, gas or vent until the failed part is found.
Explanation and Quote
You hear what failed and what the repair costs, then decide. Nothing starts without your OK.
Repair and Test
The part goes in, the appliance runs a cycle, and you see that it works before we leave.
How Maytag builds its cooktops
Maytag builds cooktops in the three common forms. On gas units, each burner has a spark electrode fed by a spark module, and a switch on each knob tells the module when to fire; a switch that sticks or gets wet makes every burner tick nonstop. The Power Burner on some models is a larger, higher-output burner that needs its cap seated properly. Radiant glass cooktops depend on infinite switches or boards to regulate elements, and a cracked top or a failed element is a common call. Induction cooktops need magnetic cookware, and a pan that fails a magnet test is the first thing checked before a board is suspected.
Parts that tend to fail on Maytag cooktops
- Spark switch stuck, clicking constantly
- Burner cap misaligned, uneven flame
- Radiant element burned out
- Infinite switch stuck on high
- Glass cooktop cracked

Maytag Cooktop: Questions We Hear
Quick answers to what people ask most. If yours isn't here, bring it up on the phone or type it into the notes box when you book.
Something else on your mind?
Reach out with the brand, the symptom and a model number if you have one. Some questions we can answer on the spot; the rest a technician can check in person.
One knob's spark switch has usually failed or got wet from a spill. Let a damp one dry out first. If clicking continues, we find the bad switch and replace it, rather than swapping the spark module.
Yes. It is usually the infinite switch for that element or, where the cooktop has touch controls, a stuck relay on its board. We test to see which it is.
