Whirlpool Cooktop Repair in Houses, Apartments and Rentals

We have no affiliation with Whirlpool and are not one of its service centers. A cooktop still covered by the Whirlpool warranty belongs with Whirlpool first. Once it's out of coverage, give us the model number and the symptom when you book so we can look into parts ahead of time.

Basement laundry
In older houses the washer and dryer are often downstairs, past narrow steps and low beams, draining to a laundry tub or floor drain. Tell us how to get down there.
Rowhouses & older homes
New appliances often sit on old wiring, gas lines and vents. We check what feeds the machine as well as the machine.
Hillsides & parking
Steps up to the front door, permit-only blocks, alley entrances. A note about access when you book gets the visit started sooner.
Rentals & landlords
Tenants can book. The owner or manager gets the diagnosis and the price, and approves before any work.
Cold garages & porches
A spare fridge or freezer in an unheated space may stop holding temperature in winter without anything having failed. Check the manual's temperature range first.
Honest advice
If an older machine isn't worth the repair, we'll tell you so, and explain what actually broke.

How a Cooktop Repair Visit Works

01

Describe the Problem

The brand, the model number if it's handy, and what the appliance is doing. A photo of the rating label is a bonus.

02

Diagnosis On Site

The technician tests the appliance and its power, water, drain, gas or vent until the failed part is found.

03

Explanation and Quote

You hear what failed and what the repair costs, then decide. Nothing starts without your OK.

04

Repair and Test

The part goes in, the appliance runs a cycle, and you see that it works before we leave.

How Whirlpool builds its cooktops

Whirlpool sells cooktops in three heat types: gas, radiant electric and induction. On gas models, a clicking igniter that won't light usually has a dirty or wet electrode, a cracked igniter or a failing spark module. Radiant electric cooktops use ribbon elements controlled by infinite switches or electronic controls, and an element that stays cold, or one stuck at full power, usually traces to one of those. Induction cooktops depend on a power board, the coils and a cooling fan. Cracked glass on an electric cooktop means replacing the top assembly. On any gas cooktop, we check the connections and leak-test any fitting we disturbed, particularly on older gas lines.

Parts that tend to fail on Whirlpool cooktops

  • Spark igniter cracked or dirty
  • Spark module clicking constantly
  • Radiant element burned out
  • Infinite switch stuck on high
  • Glass top cracked

FAQ

Whirlpool Cooktop: Questions We Hear

Quick answers to what people ask most. If yours isn't here, bring it up on the phone or type it into the notes box when you book.

Something else on your mind?

Reach out with the brand, the symptom and a model number if you have one. Some questions we can answer on the spot; the rest a technician can check in person.

Often the burner cap is out of place or the ports are clogged. Clean them and make sure the cap sits flat. If it still won't light, the igniter or spark module is tested next.

It should be fixed soon. It's usually a failed infinite switch or control that no longer cycles the element. Turn it off at the breaker if it won't shut off, and we'll replace the faulty part.
