JennAir Cooktop Repair in Houses, Apartments and Rentals

We have no affiliation with JennAir and are not one of its service centers. A cooktop still covered by the JennAir warranty belongs with JennAir first. Once it's out of coverage, give us the model number and the symptom when you book so we can look into parts ahead of time.

Basement laundry
In older houses the washer and dryer are often downstairs, past narrow steps and low beams, draining to a laundry tub or floor drain. Tell us how to get down there.
Rowhouses & older homes
New appliances often sit on old wiring, gas lines and vents. We check what feeds the machine as well as the machine.
Hillsides & parking
Steps up to the front door, permit-only blocks, alley entrances. A note about access when you book gets the visit started sooner.
Rentals & landlords
Tenants can book. The owner or manager gets the diagnosis and the price, and approves before any work.
Cold garages & porches
A spare fridge or freezer in an unheated space may stop holding temperature in winter without anything having failed. Check the manual's temperature range first.
Honest advice
If an older machine isn't worth the repair, we'll tell you so, and explain what actually broke.

How a Cooktop Repair Visit Works

01

Describe the Problem

The brand, the model number if it's handy, and what the appliance is doing. A photo of the rating label is a bonus.

02

Diagnosis On Site

The technician tests the appliance and its power, water, drain, gas or vent until the failed part is found.

03

Explanation and Quote

You hear what failed and what the repair costs, then decide. Nothing starts without your OK.

04

Repair and Test

The part goes in, the appliance runs a cycle, and you see that it works before we leave.

How JennAir builds its cooktops

A JennAir downdraft cooktop pulls air down through a vent between or beside the burners, through a grease filter and a blower, and out a duct. When smoke won't draw down, check the filter first, then the blower motor, then the duct and the exterior damper. Some models use a pop-up vent that rises from the counter at the back, with its own lift motor and position switches. Gas cooktops add spark ignition and electrodes, radiant cooktops add glass-top elements and switches, and induction cooktops add power boards and a cooling fan. Grease is the common enemy across all of them, gumming up blowers, filters and knob switches alike over years of cooking.

Parts that tend to fail on JennAir cooktops

  • Downdraft blower motor failing
  • Grease filter clogged
  • Pop-up vent motor stalled
  • Spark ignition fault
  • Radiant element or induction board failed

Symptoms that aren't specific to one maker are covered on our cooktop repair page.

FAQ

JennAir Cooktop: Questions We Hear

Quick answers to what people ask most. If yours isn't here, bring it up on the phone or type it into the notes box when you book.

Something else on your mind?

Reach out with the brand, the symptom and a model number if you have one. Some questions we can answer on the spot; the rest a technician can check in person.

Clean the grease filter first. If that doesn't help, the blower motor may be weak or the duct blocked. We check airflow at each point along the way.

Yes. A motor lifts the vent and switches tell it where to stop. Food debris, a failed motor or a switch fault can each stop it, and all are repairable.
