What's inside a Kenmore cooktop
Kenmore cooktops and range tops come in gas, radiant glass and coil electric versions, and the builder varies. On gas models, the familiar faults are an igniter that clicks but does not light, often from moisture in a spark switch or a cracked electrode, and burner caps that are not seated. On radiant glass tops, an element that stays off or runs full-on points to the element or its infinite switch. Coil-element cooktops, still common in older kitchens and rentals, have plug-in receptacle blocks that burn and loosen over time. That scorching and pitting on the terminals means both the receptacle and the element usually need replacement together.
Parts that tend to fail on Kenmore cooktops
- Spark switch stuck and clicking
- Cracked electrode
- Radiant element not heating
- Infinite switch failing
- Coil receptacle burned

Quick answers to what people ask most. If yours isn't here, bring it up on the phone or type it into the notes box when you book.
Something else on your mind?
Reach out with the brand, the symptom and a model number if you have one. Some questions we can answer on the spot; the rest a technician can check in person.
It should be fixed. That usually means a burned receptacle or a pitted element terminal. We replace the damaged receptacle and, if needed, the element so the connection is solid.
The infinite switch that controls that burner is the usual cause. We test the switch and element before replacing parts.
