Smeg Cooktop Repair in Houses, Apartments and Rentals

We have no affiliation with Smeg and are not one of its service centers. A cooktop still covered by the Smeg warranty belongs with Smeg first. Once it's out of coverage, give us the model number and the symptom when you book so we can look into parts ahead of time.

Basement laundry
In older houses the washer and dryer are often downstairs, past narrow steps and low beams, draining to a laundry tub or floor drain. Tell us how to get down there.
Rowhouses & older homes
New appliances often sit on old wiring, gas lines and vents. We check what feeds the machine as well as the machine.
Hillsides & parking
Steps up to the front door, permit-only blocks, alley entrances. A note about access when you book gets the visit started sooner.
Rentals & landlords
Tenants can book. The owner or manager gets the diagnosis and the price, and approves before any work.
Cold garages & porches
A spare fridge or freezer in an unheated space may stop holding temperature in winter without anything having failed. Check the manual's temperature range first.
Honest advice
If an older machine isn't worth the repair, we'll tell you so, and explain what actually broke.

How a Cooktop Repair Visit Works

01

Describe the Problem

The brand, the model number if it's handy, and what the appliance is doing. A photo of the rating label is a bonus.

02

Diagnosis On Site

The technician tests the appliance and its power, water, drain, gas or vent until the failed part is found.

03

Explanation and Quote

You hear what failed and what the repair costs, then decide. Nothing starts without your OK.

04

Repair and Test

The part goes in, the appliance runs a cycle, and you see that it works before we leave.

How Smeg builds its cooktops

Smeg gas cooktops use a thermocouple at each burner. When lit, the thermocouple heats and produces a small voltage that holds the gas valve open; if the flame goes out, the valve closes. That's why you have to hold the knob in for several seconds. When a burner lights but goes out on release, the thermocouple may be worn, dirty or out of position, or the valve's magnet unit may be weak. Spark igniters and switches also fail, especially after spills. Smeg induction cooktops depend on cookware detection and cooling fans, and zones can shut off from overheating or electronics faults.

Parts that tend to fail on Smeg cooktops

  • Burner goes out when the knob is released
  • Thermocouple out of position or worn
  • Igniter clicking without lighting
  • Induction zone shutting off mid-cook
  • Cooling fan on induction not running

FAQ

Smeg Cooktop: Questions We Hear

Quick answers to what people ask most. If yours isn't here, bring it up on the phone or type it into the notes box when you book.

Something else on your mind?

Reach out with the brand, the symptom and a model number if you have one. Some questions we can answer on the spot; the rest a technician can check in person.

Hold it longer first, since the thermocouple needs a few seconds to heat. If it still goes out, the thermocouple or its valve connection likely needs attention.

It may be overheating from a blocked cooling vent, not detecting the pan, or have an electronics fault. We check cookware compatibility, vents and controls.
